oldfatboy back in the saddle!

After shoulder surgery and getting some physical therapy, I decided this week to try and get back on the 20". First day I was only on for about 5 minutes. That was the first time this whole year!
Pretty scared since I didn’t want to fall and use my arm/shoulder to stop or brace myself.
I’ve gotten on it twice more for about 15 minutes each and I’m just staying on the sidewalk beside the trailer.
It is like learning all over again.
The 24" isn’t rideable at this time because of a flat and stripped bolt on the seat, and I won’t try the 36" for quite some time, but man it sure feels good to get back on something and ride, even if it is only 50 feet or so at a time.
Just had to tell about it

Glad to hear you’re back on one wheel:D

Hey oldfatboy,

Wecome back! Glad to hear that your back in the saddle again. Just hold off on the 5 foot drops and you’ll be fine. Take care.

Welcome back

Welcome back to the land of the one wheel.

Thanks all
Just hope things go better now and I’m ready to tackle the 36 come next year. I got lots of stamina and muscles to work on this winter.
It just feels so good to get on one wheel again.

And you picked the crowd happy to hear about it.

Welcome back!

I would have used that name if I would have thought of it! Ha! Welome back

Thanks Gild.
rem48, it didn’t take me long to think of the name…too obvious

hey, I just did some sidewalk riding and then went out on the street and actually did about 3 big sweeping circles! Impressed me, it did! Felt good, too.

Welcome back. Let’s be careful out there.

Thanks Wheel Rider.
Being careful in my situation is paramount

It is fun reading about what others are doing but sure is a lot more fun to finally get out there and do it after being off a wheel for so long.
Yesterday was rest day for the legs, today it’s back in the saddle.
Sure is frustrating though, after all the help you guys gave me in buying a 36" and now it just sits. My son and daughter came to visit some time ago, and I have pics to upload sometime of him riding it. I told him it was my “Cadillac”. After riding, he agreed. I thought that perhaps when he got back to Alaska he would buy one, but he was too interested in fishing, hunting, etc. Can’t blame him for that. I did it for close to 40 yrs while I lived up there

I agree. Reading what some of you are doing is very motivating. I thought all we were supposed to do was go forward and backwards when I started riding in 71. Maybe that is why we put it down for years… or could it be raising families got in the way?! Ha! anyway in case you did not see in another thread… look out for mud! Glad I jumped off in time!

rem48, not something I would want to happen either. I’ve not fallen in mud like that, but someday I could tell a story about falling face first at a friends homestead (Alaska) in their front yard during spring break-up, and where their cows had spent the day!! :frowning:

I was out for about 1/2 hr tonight and during that time my wife looked out the window to see how I was doing and couldn’t see me. She got pretty scared that I had fallen or something because she looked 3 or 4 times. During that time, I was on the street talking to a neighbor.
When I came in, she was pretty upset and worried and wanted to make sure I was ok, didn’t fall and hurt myself/shoulder/etc.
I think she was more worried about me getting hurt than I was. Smart lady!
