Someone obviously finds them entertaining, otherwise they wouldn’t actually exist.
I cannot unicycle or juggle paticularly well, does that mean that I am not allowed to practice, in case it damages your image?
Unicycling and juggling are 2 of my favourite pasttimes, and being a performer of some sort, although not necessarily a clown, is something that appeals to me a lot. Simply because it involves getting paid to do something that you actually enjoy.
This sounds a bit too heavy for my liking, but I can’t be bothered to change it, just don’t take it all too seriously.
especially the bit about me not being good at unicycling or juggling, I’m actually excellent.
OK, please enlighten the ignorant (me.) I can see how unicycling would be (WILL be, damn it, once I learn how) very much fun and thrilling and I’ll want to practice and increase my skill etc. I just don’t see the attraction to juggling. I learned to juggle 3 balls when I was 14 and never had any desire to practice further or increase my skills in that area at all. Ever.
Driving around in tiny cars with fifteen of his friends…
I find the whole unicyclist=clown idea very odd anyway. I’ve been riding for a while now and I’ve gotten a lot of comments about my unicycle. Some were a bit odd, but none involved clowns.
I’ve gotten a few comments about being a clown, joining the circus, things like that. I don’t really like it, but I think I should try to have fun with it and think of some good comebacks. My one friend who does some clowning wants me to join him, maybe someday when i’m better at unicycling.
As for juggling, I never had much intrest in it, maybe when I get really good at unicycling i’ll need something to challenge me more and take that up, I dunno.
I understand how you find juggling boring to do; I learned 3 balls at about the same age. Though occasionally amusing, I found juggling basically boring and way too boring to practice. Then, many years later, I found people to juggle with - and that was fun! Passing with people while juggling (club passing is my juggling passion) is a challenging, fast, and complex game of catch. And, analogous to uniing, as you get better you can add more difficult moves to your skill set to keep it interesting. In juggling, more difficult moves include differing the throws, the catches, the patterns, the numbers of objects, adding flourishes, different ways to “pick up” dropped (or additional) objects without breaking the flow of the pattern, etc.
If all you do with the uni is learn to freemount and ride it then you will likely get bored with it too. (I’ll bet the majority of the world’s unicycles sit unused for months or years at a time for this very reason). But, if you keep improving your skills, keep learning new skills, and find people to share your skills with, then you may be hooked for life.
I asked a clown (at a show I was at with my uni) if she could ride a unicycle. (it was MY turn!)
She (very quickly) said, ‘Nope, these shoes are way too big’
Perhaps clowns are sick of people relating them to unicyclists, and have worked out their own arsenal of comebacks!
