We bought this pewter object second hand, I am wondering what it is?
It is approx. 5"X5"X3" and is made of pewter and says: TL&SS 5499 on the bottom.
Have any of you come across anything anywhere that is similar this object and what is it used for?

Im taking a wild stab and going to say that it looks like it belongs to a tea set.
Sort of reminds me of the little Shoe Monopoly© pieces…that’s all I got.
It’s a wheel barrow for gnomes! And that thing on the top is the teather so they can tie it to a cat and go uphill!
Did you steal it from the underpants gnomes?

Its a butter holder with a handle…
That is obviously a broken shot glass. Or a gravy ladle. Wait, maybe it’s an antique water sprinkler.
No. I’ve got it now. It’s an Albainian reindeer shoehorn! What’s my prize?
I can’t help thinking none of you are right! 
Even thought some identification attempts are rather creative in nature.
Any other ideas?

It’s a sugar dish/bowl. It would go with a tea set. It’s shaped like that so you can get the spoon in nice and easy to get sugar for your tea.

If you want a legimate answer try Google Answer the researchers there will provide with an answer as well as documentation to back it up. It’ll cost you a few dollars though. Experts can’t be expected to do research for you for free.
Cos I’ve seen sugar dishes like that before (even in use), just not pewter. They were porcelain or something. Maybe yours is a fancy ornamental one cos it seems quite big from your given dimensions.

If t’were larger i’d guess at a coal scuttle, but at that size its to big for a dolls house and to small for real coal.
