Obama wins Nobel Peace Prize?!?

I suppose it’s no surprise, afterall war is peace. Having been nominated 12 days into office, Obama hadn’t yet had the chance to bomb and murder as many people as other Presidents who were awarded such an award, but on the campaign trail, he did promote the bombing of Pakistan and the escalation of war in Afganistan.

Haha. I was thinking the same exact thing. This radio station I was listening to this morning claims that he was given it for what he will do in the future. They say that he has had a good start on the path to peace.

I think it’s all a scam: the Chicomms paid off the Norwegians to give the award to BHO, so that he’d spend the rest of his presidency figuring out how to get out of Afghanistan and wouldn’t be able to attack Iran. Who the Chicomms are selling 2nd hand Russian nukes to, so that Iran can soften up the US for the big Red Dawn Chinese invasion.

You really think this prize will encourage him to exit wars, or will it be looked at as an advanced pardon to engage in more war?

I don’t care that he got it. The Nobel prize really lost it’s credibility when they gave to Gore.
It’s no question Obama doesn’t deserve it, but I’m not surprised in the least. ho hum. next news item, please.

Well,

i would be happy, to have such a president like Obama.

He’s one of those rare persons who really tries to change something, instead of talking much and doing nothing, or doing the opposite.
His reply for getting this prize also shows, how humble he is and he also said, that he doesn’t deserve it but such a prize isn’t always given for things already done, also for help pushing things in the right direction.

I really wonder, how weird some people in the US act. What did you guess will happen after Bush? That somebody is able to get on and make anyone rich and give back a comfortable living within a few months?
Anyone who got no work cries for justice and humanity, but if it comes to healthcare, anyone forgets those millions of people in the US who are pretty sick and not able to pay the doctor, just because they fear their own comforts going down the river.

Oh well, something is pretty wrong there … and not only there, in any humans head.

Long live selfishness!

Because there are so few people of international stature who are truly peacemakers, the Nobel Peace Prize is flawed by its very nature. Who has gotten it who truly deserved it? King? Rigoberta Menchu?

To say it lost its credibility because Gore received it, is to say I am a small minded partisan person who only looks at my own little piece of the world and my own little set of interests. Did it lose its credibility when Kissinger got it? De Klerk? Sadat and Begin? Teddy Roosevelt? All were men of violence prior to any work they did to bring about peace.

In my opinion it was certainly premature to give it to Obama particularly in light of the possibly impending build up of troops in Afghanistan. However, given the actions of the past administration and the affect it had on the world, given the flawed nature of the prize, and given this statement by the committee, “for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples”, there are certainly worse places it could have gone.

I for one am not celebrating but neither do I think this is something to be overly critical of.

I thought when they gave it to Nelson Mandela they had one of their ‘best’ moments, when they decided to give it to FW de Klerk at the same time, they had one of their ‘worst’, all at once.

Then again, these are the people who eat pickled herring, and tell us they like it.
Like the Mexicans, who drink tequila and claim to like it, they can’t be trusted.

I was surprised - to soon

If he can get the USA out of Iraq, close gitmo and end preventive trialess detention, that would be a start.

Maybe in a few years he may start to make out complete blackness at the end of the tunnel that is Afghanistan, and we could come to our senses and just leave. The quest for Osama’s head never should have been bigger than a few hundred special ops force. It’s really all about revenge for 911. It has nothing to do with protecting the public. 10 guys with a million ish $ could come over here again and do another atrocity. The hundreds of billions $ we pumped into Haliburton “controlling (LOL)” , that stupid patch of earth, have bought us nothing but the contempt of very people we are “suppressing” over there.

Then maybe admit the USA is broke, so tell the people we can’t afford to borrow billions a year to give to Israel. Perhaps without such generous rewards for stealing Palestinian land, the Israelis will come up with a different strategy other then steal -fence-steal, drop USA supplied bombs-repeat.

I still consider myself an Obama supporter. Stuff can take a lot of time in DC. Dealing with this congress has got to be torture. Not to mention the vast numbers of nut jobs he has to deal with in the public.

I don’t think it matters much. The prez has such a high profile that winning the prize is just a blip. It would have been better to wait until more peace stuff was done IMHO, but like some folks said ^ , there is some chance the committee hopes they can give Obama a little shove . Shape history instead of just noting it.

That’s ridiculous. What if he doesn’t do good things in the future? Are they going to take the award back?

I take it all back, he deserves a Nobel prize

If we didn’t have Obama in there playing basket ball, it would be Sara Palin carrying the football, twittering to wingnuts about Armageddon and telling Putin he better keep his head down.

So put in that context, a little diplomatic talk can go a long way. You betcha.

Could it not be said that war is a means to peace?

I really thought that I was gonna get it this year…

Best post in this thread, and nobody’s noted it? :frowning:

Sure. You sound like a sore loser complaining that NAUCC medals lost their credibility when they gave it to ________ (fill in the blank).

Say more about what you liked.

I’ll second your nomination.

_______ any of those kids who can’t spell half the names they give to tricks they claim to have “invented”?

Or to the “flux” riders?

Very much so. In the same way that having a drink calms an alcoholic.
