NUC and Muni--the Tapeworm and the Tick

Two of the greatest off-road trails in Washington State, the Tapeworm and the
Tick, are in St Edwards State Park, between Seattle and North Bend.

We are reserving the park for NUC folks–probably on July 24th–for the whole
day. Take a look at some photos at the link below, and let us know if you’re
interested in coming–and whether July 24th works for you.

We hope to have a lot of fun off-road rides scheduled between the time NUC ends
and UNICOM begins. Another ride will be a rails-to-trails ride that goes
through a 2 mile tunnel and over super-high trestle bridges. This ride is all
mild downhill–and awesome on a Coker. Check it out:

I forgot to add—the North Bend Elementary and Middle schools are starting an
off-road unicycle team. North Bend’s indoor team practices 5 days a week. This
outdoor team will steal one of those days each week.

These kids rock! If you come to ride off-road in North Bend, prepare to have
your butt kicked.

Re: Re: NUC and Muni–the Tapeworm and the Tick

I rode inside with these kids and received such a butt-kicking that I still can’t sit down. Being taught level five skills by an eight year old is a beautiful but humbling experience.

Is this only for people attending NAUCC, or is it open to anybody? I’m only going to UNICON, but my family is going to come up a couple weeks early for a family vacation. I might be able to talk them in to going back to Seatle a day early, so I can go on this ride. Those trails look awsome!

Re: NUC and Muni–the Tapeworm and the Tick

We want to encourage people to come for Naucc, not just for Unicon, but these
off-road events being held in between the two events are open for all.

The Tapeworm and Parasite trails are in Renton Washington near Phillip Arnold park. The trails at St. Edwards State Park have less exotic names like Arrowhead trail and Volunteer trail. The trails at St. Edwards are fun and offer challenges for riders of all skill levels. I was just out there riding today. Someone out there has been busy fixing up a log ride that was falling apart. Fun stuff and the trails are starting to dry out.

Rides of the Tapeworm and Parasite will have to wait for a different day.

There are lots of good rides near the NAUCC/UNICON sites so the people addicted to muni will have plenty of options for muni fun rides during NUC/UNICON. I’ll write up a description of some of the local trails shortly so the muni people will know what kind of trails to expect.

Re: NUC and Muni–the Tapeworm and the Tick

Speaking of Muni, does anybody know the exact dates for Muni and Trial
events during NAUCC and Unicon?

I’m also wondering if the majority of Trials and Muni events will ocur
during NAUCC or Unicon?

Since I’ll probably only be able to make it for a week, I don’t want to
miss any Muni or Trials.

Re: Re: NUC and Muni–the Tapeworm and the Tick

The muni competitive are during UNICON. The schedule for the events is at <http://www.nwcue.org/>

I’m also planning on some muni fun rides for during NAUCC and UNICON. The details haven’t been figured out at this time but they’ll be fun.

Re: NUC and Muni–the Tapeworm and the Tick

We have learned more about the insurance situation regarding the Muni rides
that will happen in between NUACC and UNICOM. Riders participating in these
rides (July 24-25) will need to be registered in NUACC. Planning to register in
UNICOM is not enough.

We hope that having fun muni rides associated with NUACC will encourage more
people to register and come.

Thanks,

Re: NUC and Muni–the Tapeworm and the Tick

I got the following from the organizers of NAUCC and UNICOM…

“Tell the MUni people that want to participate on the 24th (or earlier during
the week) but who aren’t otherwise registered at NAUCC to register as
non-competitors ($30 US). This will cover us on liability.”

You will have a lot of fun for your money. See you in July.
