Re: Nostalgia

That site is blocked by my company’s filtering software (all game sites are), but I do remember Asteroids. Funny, I have been telling Emma about the video games we used to play when i was younger. I was actually a killer Asteroids player. I never liked Pac-Man, Space Invaders, Centipede (?) or any of the others, but I could play Asteroids endlessly.

I used to play in college in a bar where shots were a quarter every time Reggie Jackson struck out. (Big time Mets fans!). Wow, that was back when the World Series was over by October…

Ok, best to cut this short now.

Re: Nostalgia

That was fun for a moment. I can remember plunking quarters into the asteroids game machine as a 12 year old boy, but I don’t remember a reverse thruster do you?

Re: Re: Nostalgia

quite true
i didn’t think of it untill u pointed it out
u used to have to turn and thrust to go the other way
technology!

Did anybody else besides me have one of those “ping-pong” games that hooked up to the television? That goes waaaaaay back!

We don’t have video games, but my 9 year old sometimes plays them at friends houses. I was trying to explain the primitive, yet exciting game of Pong to her the other day. I used to play it all the time when I was a teenager in, of all places, the go-go bar across the street from where I grew up. This was during the hours, of course, before the dancers arrived. Although, I do remember well trying to look through the curtains at night when the show began. (Hey, this thread is titled “Nostalgia”).

Hmmm, interestingly a number of the, shall we say, shady characters who hung out there and who taught me to shoot pool, later were often to be seen walking around Washington Square Park handing out Jesus Freak literature. But I digress.

After all, video games are good for you!

Re: Nostalgia

That must be a long time ago. What did people do before nostalgia? How did they remember the good ole’ days? That must have been a great time to live. Life must have been simple and direct, with no nostalgia to distort your memory of the past. Yeah, those were the good ole’ days…
