I got my first unicycle tonight (a torker lx, thought that would be a good starter one just in-case I don’t keep up with it…) and took it to my local college campus to practice. Holy crap, this ain’t easy hehe. Good thing I like a challenge. Got a few comments from some students, which I’ll list here:
whispering girls: “your right, it is a unicycle fag.”
random guy: “wow, thats pretty cool. Good luck.”
small group: “you been cycling long?”
me: “two wheels yes. uni, first day.”
them: “well thats pretty awesome, good luck with it.”
girl on cell: “holy crap this guy is on a unicycle, i can’t even ride a bike…”
After around an hour and a half I was able to ride about 20 feet. Good enough for the first night. I’m tired
Up is right, up to around 90 feet here on my second day of unicycling. Still can’t free mount, I send my foot over the pedal most the time and when I actually stick it I’m stuck in the 12 and 6 o’clock position and stall. Any advice in this would be much appreciated.
I’d give you some advice on how I learned, but I’m afraid it might slow you down.
It took me months to learn to free mount. I learned to idle first, watching TV torrents . If you can idle, you can go reverse when you first get on, if you get that 12 - 6 stall. So I never really learned to free mount the cool way. I like how gracefully some can just glide up and off on their big wheels. Obviously not the hop on and idle technique.
I would give you some lessons in free mounting sir, but then I suspect you shall free mount and ride off into the sunset tomorrow. Wasting months of lesson plans.
