No Sleep Til Brooklyn!!!

Hey guys and gals! As many of you know, I’m originally from Queens and right now I’ve got a great reason to get on back there for one of my rare visits. A bunch of my old uni buddies are organizing a “Uni for Afghanistan” ride through the five boroughs. We’ve got about 15+ unipsychos signed up already. The ride will follow the already-mapped-out route from the recent marathon. Pledges are made on a donation-per-mile basis. If you’re interested, drop me a line at ericgiesecke@unicyclist.com. Cheers.

This is a good opportunity to get the unicycling community to do something
together (donate). Where do the pledges go?

JF

Pledges will be made from pledgers to rider. Riders will collect on the pledges after the ride. We can’t accept pledges at this time, but thanks for your interest. I’ll keep everyone posted.

Just to clear something up, I believe John meant what charities get the money that is raised. Here is what ericgiesecke told me in an e-mailNo, the money will not go to the Taliban. Most likely, the money will go to
relief organizations, but it’s not been determined yet. However, donations
will be earmarked for specific organizations once the ride gets underway in
earnest so as to avoid such debacles as the Red Cross and Unicef (not a
unicycle organization, by the way) had with WTC donations. Thanks for your
interest. I’ll keep people posted as the ride nears (probably spring as,
yes, weather is becoming and issue).

Greetings

Even more exciting would be a uni ride in Afghanistan to celebrate the
departure of the Taliban! I tried to find out how to say unicycle in
Pashto, the language of the Taliban (I am doing some research on this
language and trying to build a system), but with no success.

With the great advaces in MUni technology and riding skills, there should
be a few ready to tale on the challenges of the rough Afghan terrain.
