Nimbus

Would a Nimbus unicycle be a very good trials uni? I want a good trials unicycle but I am on a low budget. Does it have good cranks and hub and can it stand going offf huge drops?

Why doesn’t anyone ever reply to me?

The reason people might not answer you (in this case at least) is because your post is incredibly vague. Start off by telling us what kind of trials you’re going to be doing. While a Nimbus might be ok for some it may not have have the necessary components for someone else. Tell us what you’ll be doing and then you can get a reasonable answer.

OK heres what I would probably be doing and not doing. I like to jump of steps and big drops. SOmetimes I go use it in the park on rocks and picnic tables. But mostly I would use around town jumpn on curbs up and down steps and stuff like that. I don’t grind yet so I won’t be using it for that.Thanks.

The Nimbus trials uni is a decent unicycle, same rim tyre and seat as the more expensive varieties. It can take drops, but not huge one’s - people don’t pay £100 for splined hubs and crnaks because they like the colour. I’ve got one and I’ve done drops up to about 3’ and it’s coping OK. Good technique like rolling out of drops and things will help, and for the technical aspects of trials like going up things and riding thin stuff it’ll be fine. Probably fine for grinds unless you end a grind by doing a huge drop. I can’t grind, but I can’t see it breaking the uni.

Having said that, if you do intend to do huge drops, then sooner or later you will break it. Normally that’ll just be twisted cranks which can be replaced easily enough and cheap enough, but if you break lots of sets of cranks it’ll all add up, and if you break the axle that’s quite a bit more, so if you can afford a splined set up it might be a good idea.

The other possibility is to get the nimbus and then when you break it get a splined hub and crank set, and rebiuld he wheel with the new bits. Not as cheap as buying a splined uni to start with, but it spreads the cost a bit.

i would say get a “qu-ax trials” if you can go for the nimbus style qu-ax frame it’s lighter if your in the usa then you probli should not bother.i would just go splined if you can

basically that with the cheaper frame!

i ment to say… i started with a nimbus they are great and totally upgradable yeah the hub/cranks die but my wheel set lasted a year until i could not stand the fact i could not do drops as i was so scared of breaking my unicycle! This was a good thing though!i became much better at going up stuff and my freestyle came on loads to!
