Nimbus ISIS cranks bent

I was doing a 100 mile ride yesterday to train for my adventure on the Dalton Highway in May, and part of my route was on some nice single tracking in Point Mugu State Park in the Santa Monica Mountains just North of Los Angeles. The trail was moderately difficult. I rolled over an eighteen inch drop, and bam, my left crank was bent in and slightly twisted. Which is weird, because I’ve done much larger drops and landed them much worse than this.

So that slowed my pace down quite a bit and I had to unicycle the last 30 miles of my ride with a bent crank, in pitch blackness, down the Pacific Coast Highway…absolutely terrifying.

Luckily, i ordered the KH Moments last Friday, and I get them tomorrow!

these things are cumulative, it bent over the 18" drop because you took bigger drops badly so many times.

how much do you weigh?

Hey, Captainwelch, you’re in the Santa Monica area? I’m in Irvine! (about 18 miles south of Long Beach) We should get together and ride! I’m assuming you’re doing your 100 mile rides on a Coker… if not, major props to you… if so, well, still, major props to you!

I’ve been wanting to ride south from here to San Diego (where I am from) for a good long time now, and it’d be awesome to go with someone. I’d totally ride north, though, if we were going to ride. That is, unless you’re based in Ventura or SB or something and the Santa Monica mountains were the south end of your ride

Last time I was at Point Mugu was when I was on my bike on my way south from SF area two years ago, it’s cool out there!

You must be a real hit with the ladies using chat up lines like that

STM

So, I weigh in at about 170lbs

and chuckearonut,

I’m only in LA because I performed at the Orange County Performing Arts Center last week with a show I’m touring with. Sorry man. But I am looking for riding buddies for my Alaska ride in May, if you’re interested.

I bent a crank before from a waist height drop into a muddy river bed. I was quite surprised it bent as the ground was very soft. I suppose it must be a cumulative thing over many drops. It was horrible to ride afterwards. I think my one serious injury on a unicycle was due to having a bent crank (not that riding off picnic benches is dangerous or anything in the first place). I got used to it being bent while I was waiting for a new one so when the new one came it felt like it was more bent than the old crank initially. If I ever bend another one I’m going to get it replaced as soon as possible.
