Nimbus 20" trials, or torker?

I am currently debating which Uni to buy. I currently ride a Nimbus 24" Muni (my dad’s, actually) and am looking to buy something for trials. So far I am looking at the Nimbus trials on unicycle.com and a torker (I am not sure whether it is LX or DX or what, it’s the one that costs more and has a much nicer seat, if that helps.)

So, what do you recommend?

I would probably think to buy the Nimbus. I am also thinking about buying that one for like 169.00 I would think it would have better quality but I don’t know.

Both the Nimbus and the Torker have good and bad points. The Nimbus has a better (Wider) frame and a stronger 19 inch rim with a fat tire. The Torker has a stronger hub and crank set.

The problem with the Nimbus is that it has a square hub. This means that there are plenty of cranks available, but they aren’t going to be as strong as the Torker’s. Don’t expect to do too many large drops with this uni.

The problem with the Torker is that it has a narrow frame and 20 inch rim. The 20 inch rim means that you can’t use trials tires. The narrow frame also prevents the use of trials tires.

All in all, both are good unicycles for the money, but neither are top of the line.

My suggestion is to get the Nimbus. At least it can fit a true trials tire.

Daniel

Thanks.

I am also kind of leaning toward the nimbus because I like their Muni and it custs less, but I would like to support my local bike store’s uni sales.

you can also buy monty cranks for cotterless hubs (like the nimbus) and they will do the trick. but they are a bout 60$ on uni.com but im sure its worth the money.

If you know how to build wheels, another option is to get the Torker and rebuild the weel with a 19inch rim. The frame will still be too small for a trials tire, so you could pickup a nimbus frame, they are pretty cheap.

DUDE!
I just got a Nimbus 20" Trials today, but I forgot i was a parapalegic. I do not really need it because of that, and I would be perfectly willing to sell you mine. It is brand new, I just took it out of the box to make sure all of the parts were there and in tact. It is in great condiditon; have not even ridden it yet. They are out of stock until August on unicycle.com, so this is probably a great deal for you. Where do you live, just so I can approximate the shipping costs and let you know? I would be willing to sell it to you for $169 + S&H, the same as unicycle .com.

P.S. Just kidding about being a parapalegic, I actually just decided that trials wasn’t right for me; I’m not that great at jumping.

I was considering the Nimbus trials uni for a while, but I decided to go with the Nimbus II freestyle uni instead.

It has a 48 spoke wheel as opposed to the 36 on the trials, which is nice, and has the exact same hub/crankset. The freestyle comes with rubber non-marking pedals, but you can get a set of platforms with pins for under $20, and you can replace the quick release seat post clamp, and it still comes out cheaper than the Trials. The only downside is the width of the frame. It can’t accomidate anything wider than 2", but the stock hookworm tire is real grippy. I’ve been doing trials with it, and have had great success. Plus, I think the freestyle model is quite a bit more versatile.

Plus, it comes in pretty colors.

You must be looking at the Torker DX 20" with the splined hub. I highly recommend the Nimbus II freestyle over it. It’s $55 cheaper, the parts are cheaper, and everything else is more or less the same
