Newb Here

Long story short, broke collar bone day after Christmas road riding,Dr said I could not ride “A Bike” until Im all healed from surgery(10 screws and a plate). A friend of mine that i ride mountain bikes with rides mUni and let me borrow his about 3 weeks ago. I have bought my own and am now hooked. The best thing is while I’m in rehab mode I’m not riding a bike  Doctors orders.

I think I’m doing pretty good, I can static mount (I think thats what its called) and ride, I took the Nimbus II 24" to a flat single track section of trail and did pretty good. 1 vertical inch feels like 1 vertical foot to me… Still learning and really enjoying riding.

Thanks for all the info this forum has…

Cool, sounds like you’re learning at a good pace. I was amazed at how soon I was actually riding from the moments of doing 2-3 pedal rotations before bailing.
And about drops and slopes, riding up the driveway ramp (which has a small dip into the gutter before a sharp dip upward) definitely feels exaggerated. The smallest uneven spot on the ground caused me to stop dead in my tracks (much like a street skateboard hitting a pebble). And every tiny dip in the road, I can feel…feels kind of like a little roller coaster!

Just be careful with what you’re doing. A bad fall can jar your collar bone if you land the wrong way.

With this said, I’d check out this thread, this is where the rest of us newbs live:

Posting there has helped me a lot actually. I can now freemount (rollback style), idle, and ride indefinitely…until my legs and feet tire out.

Welcome to forum upnover

Well you aren’t putting weight on any bars (I bet one of your Doc’s concerns), but I’d be worried of damaging something from a sudden arm wave to regain your balance.

Eleven years ago I dislocated my collar bone and was perscribed a sling for four weeks. At the begining of the second week while driving home from work someone cut me off and I instinctively reached 4-5 inches to the bottom of the wheel w/ my bad arm and the colar bone poped out. Took a bit longer to heal but it still bothers me if I do lots of certain movements (it dosen’t if I’ve been doing the rehab exersises they gave me).
