New Unistars?

Today I emailed Torker asking them if they are planning on producing any new Uni’s and also if they plan to make any with wider frames. This is the email I got in reply:

The current Unistar’s will be revised for 2004 (arriving October ???) with completely new frames.

We will also be adding a trials/off-road version in 20" & 24" wheels.

That’s all I can say for now.

Anyone know any more then this? I want to know in what way they will be changed.

Thanks,
Daniel

hopefully it means “flat crown”

I wouldn’t be surprised if Torker used the splined axle and cranks from their T-Drive.

only if they start making a hub too,but they could do that easy i bet

RE: New Unistars?

Daniel,

Don’t look for an immediate announcement on this. SBS is developing
these cycles even now with their off-shore manufacturer. Prototypes are
in development. They have to be received, approved or modified and then
approved, manufactured in quantity, then sent by Ocean freight. The
process is a typically a year.

SBS asked for our input, and we asked to be a part of the approval
process. That’s the best way to remove warranty issues at the outset.
We expect a true freestyle version of the black frame (flat crown) with
high-psi freestyle tire, and a 24 x 3 MUni with unicrown.

Manufacturers often don’t meet delivery schedules, and other factors
cause delays (like last Summer’s dock strike) so we refrain from
publishing due dates. We learned that the hard way.

Re: RE: New Unistars?

Is a ‘unicrown’ a rounded crown? Wouldn’t everyone want the option of some nice place to rest their foot for a while?

Is is possible to put some kind of nub around the crown, or some other simple mod that could serve as a foot rest?

RE: New Unistars?

The MUni foot-rest is a feature of Kris Holm unicycles, meant for those
who want to combine MUni riding and traditional freestyle (gliding)
skills. Before Kris introduced this feature on his namesake unicycles,
the vast majority of riders practiced gliding skills on a freestyle
(20-inch) unicycle and used their MUni for MUni.

Unicrown is still the standard for those riders, though with the
increasing demand for Kris Holm products, that may change.
