New unicyclist in the family

Well, after 6+ years of marriage I’ve finally convinced my wife to take up
unicycling.

She has made remarkable progress in the last few days. Last Friday a
24" (the one with the blue anodized rim and the blue/white tire)
arrived in the mail for her. I adjusted the seat to fit her, inflated
the tire and we began.

I suggested she start by hanging onto the railing on the backyard deck
and ride alongside. She’s been practicing a total of < 1hr and can
already manouver back and forth along the railing using only the support
of 1 hand.

Tonight she tried riding away from the end of the railing and on several
attempts she made it 1 or 2 revolutions. She was beginning to get
discouraged tonight feeling that she wasn’t progressing fast enough. I had
to remind her several times that it takes a lot of practice.

I told her about NUC and UNICON and I think were probably going to try to
attend one or the other. Her goal is to be riding at Level 1 by then. I
really think that she’ll do it (probably Level 2 or 3 at the rate she’s
been going).

Anyway we’re both quite excited about how it’s going.

Michael,

Congratulations! Wow, I wish my wife would try to ride a uni. We have been married nearly 5 years. I don’t see the light at the
end of the tunnel for this one. Maybe a light will go on upstairs in the next year. Do you think?:stuck_out_tongue:

All the best to your wife.

You must be such a happy man today ! Your wife sharing the sport you love
and being good at it !

Congrats !

Christ.

Michael,

Be careful! I’ve been in more trouble with my wife after commenting about
babysitting my kids. She insists that fathers do not babysit their own
children. How right she is!

Yes, she’s quite athletic. She enjoys running and recently began training
for a marathon. She saw how much I was enjoying unicycling and thought it
looked like a lot of fun. She’s also got excellent balance from previous
cheerleading/gymastics/aerobics.

As a matter of fact, she’s practicing the uni as I type. Only problem is
the kids don’t yet ride so I’m stuck indoors for now watching the baby
(which I actually enjoy too).
