It isn’t fixing mine. When I tried to send a bug report outlining the
problem my mail bounced because the user’s box was too full.

I haven’t been able to connect to AIM w/trillian since yesterday, even
with the new version 7.22… on two separate computers.

  1. Shut down Trillian
  2. Download http://thedoh.dyndns.org/aim.dll (464kb), so dont give out URL
  3. Put the aim.dll from 2) into your Trillian directory
  4. Restart Trillian

Works for me, .71

It’s MSN vs. AOL over again

MSN gave up fast, Trillian is having a lot of fun.

How can Trillian not emulate a connection as being from AIM?

Dammit! Too many people accessing the site !

Wow! I got it… it’s working!! I had to just let it try about 30
times… !!!

Maybe AOL is sending a query to the software to check if it is truly is AOL
software, there has got to be some ability for AOL to send queries to AIM
like that.

Well there is a new patch out that seems to be working. I get all my
patches from http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/

I would think that if AIM did that, they would be able to send a message
to the status window saying something like “trillian users are not welcome
on our network” LOL. Although I don’t really see what the point is since
anyone can just download AOL IM anyhow…

It’s not like the IM is proprietery any longer.

But their network is, and Trillian connects to their network. AOL has
the right to block any individual from connecting to their servers, and
they have chosen to do so. You have to allow them that right.

Now, I don’t agree with their decision, being that it is based solely on
marketing their product. It would be nice to see an open network of IM
servers where any client could connect, so long as they adhered to the
IM protocol.

Yes, when you try to log onto the AIM network, the AIM servers request a
key or digital signature from the software.

Yeah but see, a) you still have to get a username from them in order to
sign on and b) their IM software is free. So, basically the only
difference is which software we’re using, and they’re not getting any
revenue from us either way. They’re also not losing any revenue. It’s
not like we’re using their resources wrongfully, as we’d be using them
anyway. It’s not like trillian users are causing them any additional
liability, either, as they can revoke our screen names if we misbehave the
same way they could anyone else’s.

It’s just petty, that’s all.
