New trick: idling on escalators??

This is pure speculation on my part, since I
can’t idle yet myself, but I’m here in Las Vegas,
and it looks to me that the escalators on the
street are large enough that one could
conceivably idle all the way up one.

Has anyone been able to do this?

Dude Im in Reno! Come up here and we’ll ride and do some muni at Mt. Rose!

There is a clip, I think, In one wheel no limit where some people are on their unis on escalators but i dont think their idling. This is a trick im going to have to go try at the old town mall. But i doubt ill get passed security. Let alone beable to idle on he escalators.

I’ve seen a video of someone going up an escalator on a small bike; they rode on, facing up the escalator, and did an extremely impressive stillstand all the way to the top, before riding off.

Phil

I have gone up escalators on my uni by grabbing the handrail and enjoying the free ride up and then riding off at the top, I have also passed clubs while on the escalator walking down the up one, the other person wasnt on it with me.

I have thought about trying to idle but there isnt much room, and doing a standstill on it seems kinda tuff and if you fall the edge of the stairs are like teeth= no fun.

If I make a vid at pitt I’ll put a clip of that in there for you…

Re: New trick: idling on escalators??

I was talking about the escalators on the street – they’re outside,
open to the weather, not inside some casino, and they have
wider than the usual mall escalator steps. So the security
would be the LV police, not some casino rentacop. I haven’t
seen any unis on the sidewalks, so I don’t know if they are
legal, but i have seen those bike cabs that you can rent
riding on the sidewalks. So I would guess that a uni
should be fine on the sidewalk.

Uh, for those of you that weren’t aware, unicycling on escalators is a unicycling ‘Thing not to do.’

The escalators in Vegas tend to be pretty busy, so it’s hard to get good practice time in, except maybe during the non-tourist hours. The picture on my Web site was taken during the IJA Festival, and it was probably after midnight when we did it. Obviously it wasn’t too busy at that moment…

When I was in Holland in 1983 visiting the Abrahams’, Sem’s brothers and I spent some time trying to idle on an indoor escalator at a shopping center that stayed open after most of the stores were closed. No people! The hard part was pedal interference with the next higher step, severely limiting your movement. It was hard to make the transition from the ground on to the moving step and get into the idle before the step came up and got in the way. I don’t think we ever got very far with that.

Elevators are a piece of cake, though.

you could always do little hops instead, that shouldn’t be too hard.

Didnt your mom…

didnt your mom ever tell you not to ride down the up escalator???

no really, if i ever find wide enuf escalator stairs, this is something im gunna have to try… gotta make sure security isnt there as well, they sure wouldnt like to be held accountable…

and dont you dare think about a continuous stairway drop…

Hey there…

I’m currently going to college in Utah, but live in Vegas for holidays (sometimes summer). My family is there. We live actually in North Vegas. What part of town are you from? Maybe we can meet up some time when I come down there and find a place to Muni or just practice freestyle stuff.
