New to the sport and uni

I’m new to the uni community. I’ve been mountain biking for years, and was in a bike shop and saw a uni and wanted to try it and got hooked. So I bought a Torker 24"LX. It has been about a week now and I can ride it about 50 to 80 yards. I was using a pole for the last couple of days to get on and balance until I got going. Today I’m working free mounting, it’s tough. Any suggestions or pointers would be very helpful. Next summer I would like to be riding trails, and a new muni.

Go to <http://www.xs4all.nl/~klaasbil/uni_beginners.htm> and download
the Word document Learning to Unicycle (referenced towards the bottom
of the page). It contains tips on freemounting and other helpful
stuff.

Your story sounds familar - I was getting my taco-ed MTB tire straightened when I saw a uni gathering dust in the shop. The owner laughed when I asked to try it, but the lessons I learned before came back after 30 years. Now I have a Nimbus and the MTB trails that have grown stale are a blast again! My advice is keep trying for the effort will be greatly rewarded later. Good luck!!!

Also, check out www.uncycle.2ya.com for tips and a video tutorial on freemounting (among lots of other things).
