New Starter

My 11 year old son wants a Unicycle but before we find that we’ve spent
good money on a 10 minute wonder (those of you who are parents will know
what I mean !!), what is the best way to get into this sport ?

We live in Bournemouth on the south coast of England if that’s any help to
those of you who might live near.

Is buying second-hand a good idea - and does anyone know where I can get
hold of one locally ?

Thanks in anticipation

I would buy a basic unicycle from unicycle.com, Roger will help you with
sizing I am sure, and while you are there get Charlie Dancy’s book “How to
ride your Unicycle”. By buying a new unicycle, you will know that it is in
good condition, and the book will give some good ways of getting started,
it helped me a lot, and I found Roger at unicycle.com in the UK very
helpful when I bought a new unicycle last year.

Hope this helps.

a) Good for him.
b) TCP on standby.

Would you believe it, I live in Poole.

I got the one-wheeled urge out of the blue last year and I got a 20"
Ringmaster uni from DM unicycles (www.unicycle.co.uk) for £125 - they
are/he is in Christchurch so we just went over and collected it (nice
bloke Dave Mariner is).

My DAD soon got riding my unicycle (I am 15) and after a few months got
his own 24" Ringmaster (£128 - again from DM unicycles, as they are good
quality). Now we go out on them together and learn new stuff

  • this week idling has been the challenge.

I don’t know where the original inspiration to get a uni came from, but
i’m glad I got it - it took quite a bit of determination to get the basics
but once you can ride forward you can start doing all sorts of things.

Good luck, maybe you should start riding as well as your son,
