New PowerBook!!!

Just got my new 17 inch PowerBook today.

Just thought I’d boast a little bit.

Mojoe

Is it the Apple 17 inch powerbook? My dad has one and its awsome. He also has the G5 which is wayyyy cooler

thats to bad

Now you just have to put Linux on it and it’ll be perfect!

I am jealous

How do you use that thing? I’d have to read “Mac OS X for Dummies” to figure out how to do anything productive with a Mac.

hey wait. there’s no G5 powerbook. Unless I missed something. A G5 tower? those are cool.

A P-P-P-Powerbook?

With a cool new keyboard?

Or a Bluetooth mouse?

and Firewire?

Its the G5 tower. Its so fast its scary

Ok. I misunderstood you. Agreed on the tower though.

Edit: catboy~ the pppppowerbook is the bomb. I loved that site the first time I saw it.

It’s so fast that the apostrophes can’t keep up.

Do you really need it? The thing comes with Unix after all.

That’s interesting. When I sit down to my 17" Powerbook, I usually start in doing whatever I sat down to do with it. When I crank up my (admittedly old) PC running Windows 2000, I usually have to fix things, adjust things, take confirmation that my virus definitions are up to date, etc. Then I can do whatever I sat down to do with it, if I still have time.

Compared to my Mac, my old PC is like comparing an old MGB to a modern Toyota. My Toyota, like my Mac, just works.

Nothing’s perfect, of course. Mostly I am saddened by the lack of choice in some software categories (not most). Also there are things I could do easily with Windows Explorer that I still haven’t figured out with the Mac’s Finder.

For example. Consolidating old batches of files with new ones. If I copy the “documents” folder, for instance, from a backup into my current documents folder, in Windows it will stop on every file with a matching name, and tell me the file size and date, helping me make an educated guess about overwriting or canceling. On the Mac it just reports the filenames are the same without any further information. To find out, you have to do the files one at a time. If anyone knows a way to do this better, I’d really appreciate it!

Otherwise, loving my Mac.

This is my first Mac, though I’ve been sort of Mac curious since OS X came out. I’m a sucker for all of the cool graphic transitions. I really haven’t had much trouble with my 3 year old Windows XP machine. I still don’t have this all figured out, but I’m getting it. I just figured out how to do a screen shot.

cheers…Mojoe

I need Linux… Because I’m stubborn enough that I don’t want to learn how to use Mac OS X, and from what I gather Linux is still more stable than OS X…

Having said that, if/when my K6-2 Server dies, it’s being replaced with a Mac Mini

Mac OS X: Because making Unix user friendly was easier than debugging Windows
