Looks like it will be interesting times for the Catholic faith.
Hmmm…
Benedict XVI hes muh boy dizzle.

I was so close! I thought it would be an Italian for sure. But I was right on the conservative aspect. Good old Ratzinger, John Paul II’s right hand man. I suppose an Italian couldn’t get a majority.
Man, Benedict’s old. Guess he’s just there to soften the blow.
Woohoo! This is such great news! Now we can all… ummm, now all of us can… Oh, uhm, now finally everyone will be able to… Well… Come to think of it not a damned thing has changed. Oh well. At least someone’s mom is proud.
ps… It is my understanding that in his younger days, this new pope was a soldier in the German Army under the Nazi regime. Does this mean that somewhere out there, someone was shot and/or killed by the pope?
Talk about a news story.
just my two cents.
Ed
Curiously enough I, the Jew, was more willing to let the fact that he was in the Hitler youth - it is said that he was compelled - and served in the German army during WWII - seems he deserted, though waited until 1945 - be forgiven more than my wife, a former Catholic, is.
I think this is a bad time in history for the Catholic Church to have selected such a hardline, conservative as Pope when the whole rest of the world is trying to convince the Islamic world to modernize and democratize. Personally I think it sets a bad example.
(me) laughs
I’m guessing he’s not really out there anywhere anymore.
re-phrase:
Does that mean that somewhere someone was shot by the pope? Or even someone was killed by the pope?
This says he did not see any combat.
the last pope was John Paul,i thought the next one would be…
George Ringo
I think its funny
I heard every one talking about the nazi thing today… its funny. I dont care… I just hope they stop making a big deal about the pope thing now, I got sick of hearing about it. Seems justas the news of hes dying.dead got over, then its news of a new pope to control the news stations, and interrupt our scheduled programing.
Note, not religious and couldnt care less about the pope…
And I dotn mean this as disrespectful to people who care… although it probably is, so I appoligize now, but I had to. I have lost my self control for the night.
and just think the new pope is 78…we get to do this all over agian soon
(im off to the tavern)
yeah… I vote no.
Someone was saying that seeing a pope die, and another one elected was a once in a lifetime thing…and how were seeing history being made which is rare.
What were they thinking? I forget who… but… I meanseriously…he could die tomorrow at his age. It could happen twice in a year.
Then again, I could die tomorrow
well sorta, but the pope before J.Paul lived for a week or somthing. i cant remember and wasnt alive to be tortured by it, but i think thats what happend.
EDIT: back from the tavern.
yeah, well I just cant see it being something thats a once in a life time thing.
I mean, I’m 19 and JP 2 died…
next guy is 78 now, so say, 10 years max (he;ll out live his life span then…)
So, he shoudl be (talking life spans) passed away by the time I’m 20.
They get a new pope. Say, he 50 at the youngest…
I’ll be 29. Chances are he’ll die before me.
I dunno-it doesnt seem too rare to me thinking of it like that.
There have now been 51 popes in the last 500 years and 260 (or 265, I can’t recall which) in total. It’s pretty easy to do the math as far as how often on average they change. At 26 years John Paul II had a longer than average tenure.
Well, Raphael, I’m pretty bummed that I voted for you and you didn’t win. I even had a yard sign out, “Raphael for Pope!” Maybe next time.
i’ll be smiling about that for a while
thanx
the ‘Nazi-Pope’ thing has got more to do with his fascist attitude towards running the church than being forced to join the Hitler Youth as a kid
it is insanely scary to see another major position of power occupied by one of his ilk
Malachy’s prophecy just keeps getting more interesting
Thanks, Cardinal Bruce.
that is too funny
i want to see a pic
