New MUni films, internet videos

Hi all,

I spent an afternoon filming on the Vancouver North Shore for a website called
<xtremeride.com> If you go there and click on unicycle, there’s a clip of riding
two trails on the North shore: Circus and Ladies Only. It’s pretty low budget
but I’m kind of pleased about this one because one of the ladder-bridges in the
video clip has never been ridden on a bicycle, only on a unicycle (a ladder
bridge called “the Epitomizer”).

One warning: it’s a very large Quicktime file (25 Mb) and takes forever to load
if you have a slow internet connection.

Also, there’s a MUni filmshort touring around with a Film Festival called the
Banff Film Fest. It goes to many cities in various countries in the world-
scheduling is at <http://www.banffcentre.ab.ca/cmc/film_tourall.html>

Cheers,

Kris Holm.

sequence was painful

I’ve thought about chest armour but have rarely scarred my chest- just a few
rare bruises. I think that since the falls aren’t all that bad compared to the
bikes (where do the same thing at way higher speed), perhaps basic agility is
the best injury preventer. In addition to basic elbow and leg armour, and wrist
guards, I’m wearing a pair of Cordura/Senior Ballistics Nylon pants with velcro
hip and tailbone pads (made by Roach)- these help a lot. Mostly I get hip and
thigh bruises and various scrapes.

That was way, way cool! I only wish I could download it, so I could show it at
home (where my Web is 56K). I also liked the music, a very mellow guy apparently
saying “Yahoo” over and over.

Was the Epitomizer the one with the long skinny logs?

I think they’ve changed the site so that this isn’t so much of a hassle now. —

Yes that was the Epitomizer.

Very nice! If you keep at it, pretty soon the bike guys won’t let into their
competitions - claiming an unfair advantage. (At that point, you’d just offer to
trade cycles with them.)

Re: New MUni films, internet videos

I used Download Accellerator Plus. It only took two-and-a-half minutes over my
cable connection.

Re: New MUni films, internet videos

Very very nice! That’s awesome!

I personally think this is some of the best MUni footage I’ve seen. It really
shows you riding much more of the trail, without edits, than most of the
mountain bike videos (Universe is, of course, an exception). This gives a good
sense of how difficult some of the terrain really is. Not that it ever looked
easy, but seeing the rocky and rooty descents that link the various stunts
together really puts the trails into perspective.

I was out in Vancouver a year ago, to explore the possibility of moving there
and to mountain bike (of course
. I crumpled the front rim while riding Ladies Only … it
was a borrowed bike. Not fun! I didn’t unicycle then. Now I only wish I started
unicycling sooner.

Can you still recall your first day riding a North Shore trial on the uni and
what it was like?

Yeah, I too had a hassle with the Flash thing that pulls up the videos. I wanted
to download it, but couldn’t. Maybe that’s what they want, but in the interest
of keeping corporate bandwidth sane and still being able to show some of my
colleagues, it’d be better to have the Quicktime file…

I wondered about that too…

RE: New MUni films, internet videos

I love the video and the music! I’m still trying to decipher the song lyrics
though… sounds to me like he is singing “bad alcohol”.

Re: New MUni films, internet videos

Yes I loved it as well and I only started yesterday. Kris hey well done (
ps. what were you riding , any special shoes?)

It is possible with 56k just takes aprox 1 1/2 2 hrs with ok connection

but don’t forget to check the box in QuickTime settings (qt4)

browser plugins save movie in internet browser disk cache

or you may need to do it again , if you do it stays there and you can move it to
where you keep yr other clips
