New MUni Action-Adventure film

Hi All,

A few months ago Nathan Hoover and I went to Mexico and had a really fun
trip climbing and filming a unicycling adventure on two Mexican Volcanoes,
La Malinche and El Pico de Orizaba. A goal of mine is to complete a number
of action-adventure unicycling films over the next two years, and
hopefully this is the first of a series.

The film is called Unizaba, and you can see a one-minute trailer for it at
this URL: LOW RES (58 secs, 929KB)
<www.beyondgravity.net/unizaba/unizaba_trailer1_u.mpg> HIGH RES (58 secs,
4.3MB) <www.beyondgravity.net/unizaba/unizaba_trailer2_u.mpg>

This 10 minute film is directed/produced by Sean White/Freeride
Entertainment, and sponsored by Unicycle.com, Norco Bicycles and Coast
Magazine. A sneak-preview of it should hopefully be premiered at NUC.

Cheers,

Kris Holm.

Nice video, very nice. Amazing what you fellows can
do.

You also have me humming that tune you use for the video. Who, what and
where can the music be had?

Initially Unizaba will be released to the film festival circuit, such as
the Banff Film Festival, Telluride Mountainfilm and the EXPN Tube film
festival. These are the festivals that Skilletto is playing on this year.
Success on this forum is a good springboard for the television market.

Music is:

“On Taobh Tuathnail Amach” by Kila (Key Records) Album: Tog E Go Dog E

I believe that they sang in Gaelic although I don’t think the group
exists anymore.

Cheers,

Kris.

Great video! I liked the downhill stack in slo-mo. Evidently you survived
Kris. What was with the guys with guns at the end?

Hi Everyone,

Kris, the clip is awesome!! I hope to see more in the future. One question, how can i learn to glide like that?

Thanks for keeping this sport on the edge,

-Evan

How do you get to carnegie hall?

It helps (a lot) to have a smooth tire and a relatively smooth shoe.
Just make sure that, once you get good, your shoe doesn’t have a real
thin sole!

Since I’m pretty sure Kris learned this on knobby tires, and probably with
a treaded boot, when he switched to the relatively slick tire he’s using
in the video, it was a huge improvement for him.

Stay on top, John Foss, the Uni-Cyclone jfoss@unicycling.com

There can be a fine line between “hobby” and “mental illness.” – scary
reality-check for unicyclists

Actually the main improvement for me was when I finally got a uni with a
square fork crown with a solid place to put my non-scuffing foot. The
smooth tire is better as well but is really slippery if you ride over dust
or a wet patch. In any case I think that gliding on a MUni will always be
a bit harder because your knees are scrunched up with the big tire.

I confess shamefully … I have watched this
short movie clip about 20 times already. I LOVE IT! At first, I thought
the music was crappy, but then it grew on me after the 3rd time watching
it. Now I like the music and it “fits” the ongoing action! So far, I have
not grown fatigue watching the movie. I love it because it “inspired” me
to buy a unicycle. I still don’t know how to ride one, but I will never
forget this movie clip. Really, this movie clip ENCOURAGED me to buy a
unicycle! I’ll never be good like those guys, of course, but hopefully
I’ll learn to at least ride a unicycle and to go off-roads with it!
Thanks to whomever created this movie! I owe you one! Incidentally, I
can’t seem to download the file and keep it. I want to hold on to that
.mpg file forever.

Who says! Time, commitment and loads of practice (or is that practise?)
can get you just about anything. If you want to become as good as them, go
for it! If you’re like me and would be happy being a quarter as good (how
do you measure that?) then do that and be proud of it!

>Incidentally, I can’t seem to download the file and keep it. I want to
>hold on to that .mpg file forever.

If you’re using Internet Explorer on Windows then go to “Tools”, “Internet
Options” and click “Settings” under the “Temporary Internet Files”
section, then click “View Files”

An explorer window will then pop up, this is your I.E. cache (you may have
noticed each time you click on the video link you don’t have to keep
downloading it, this is where it comes from). If you sort the files by
order of size then the mpg you’re after will almost certainly be at or
near the top. If it isn’t there your cache size may not be big enough, you
can increase it. You passed the slider bar that changes the size a few
clicks back.

If you’re using Netscape or anything else (I’m not familiar with them),
then just do a search for *.mpg on your hard drive and you’ll find it
(this method will work with I.E. too). Once you’ve found the file (by
whatever method) copy it to another directory where you’ll be able to find
it quicker (it could be deleted from the cache if you fill it up).

Hope that helps.

Have fun!

Graeme
