New miyata seat sawing off my leg

Indeed, ouch. I’ve been all over the place today but I’ve had to stop for fear of my left leg falling off.

The front bumper on my new miyata seat isn’t on straight; the sides of the bumper protrude out more on the left than the right, and my left thigh is paying the price.

I’ve had a quick look and I can’t get the bumper off without taking the whole thing to pieces because the front nut won’t come off, the bolt must be turning instead.

Closer inspection has revealed that the bumper has a small split in it on the left side anyway, so I’m thinking of a quick attacking job to shrink the bumper.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Maybe you’re sitting too far up on the seat?

Hmmm, possibly… I think it doesn’t help that I’ve been doing loads of bouncing and jumping on it today having only just learned how to properly, and standing furtherforwards. But now my leg is sore enough that it hurts when riding normally, and I think I’m in the right place…

I’m about to attack my seat and see if I can make it more central. Somehow…

I slimmed down the handles on a couple of Miyata saddles by hacksawing off 4 or 5mm from the edges that can rub you thighs.

Also wear two layers on your legs eg cotton over cycleshorts.

Germolene works well on unicycle related sores (rootbeer doesn’t).

(Hmm, just about close enough for an evening’s Muni in the Malverns one day)

Yeah, that’s what I’ve done; I attacked it with a stanley knife and used my amazing sculpting skillz to get rid of the protruding bits. I’ve not tried it yet, I’m trying to save my leg for when my new MUni gets here… yeah… just try to keep me off those hills then!
