New KH 26 on the way! I’m hooked and figured just get it. I also figured I’d be able to sell my club 24 or use it to try and get a friend hooked or get my wife to give it a shot. Now just anxiously await its arrival. I would imagine that will be a whole new challenge with a larger and wider wheel. I wish I tried this when I was much younger, although I probably wouldn’t of had the extra money to buy one.
Yeah! Good move. The KH has all the right parts (seat, cranks and etc).
I just shortened my seat post and took my new uni to the shop to get the brake adjusted. I’m not yet confident in my mechanical abilities to make sure the setup is correct. I’ll take it for a spin when they’re done. The Zero seat kind of scares me. I didn’t get the handle bar that’s recommended.
I have the same thoughts as you. Wish I had learned when I was much younger.
Right after I placed my order I thought about the handlebar. I might call and try and have it added. Not sure though if I will like it but I’ll give it a shot.
For the zero saddle, road riding is much more comfy with the handlebar. For mountain I would probably still not have one. Long stretches of smooth pavement will leave you wanting one. Just my preference, but fear not if you can’t change the order. Ride it, see if you like it how it is first. The only thing you’ve lost is free shipping.
I was scared about no handle bars with my zero but I really like it for muni and the mile or two of road riding to get to the trails. I’d just ride your awesome new kh26 without bars until you really feel you need them, after all the lighter the better in my option. The only thing you will want to change out right away is the pedals, the stock ones work fine for playing around but quickly turn into ice skates when the trails get rough.
Yes, go with the handle bar. Once you learn how to use it, life is going to be much easier.
I was afraid that the zero might be too difficult for me to ride. So far, I’m happy to report that I can ride it. Not sure I like it though. It’s like riding a brick. Yeah I know I need to give it time.
I’m thinking about getting another seatpost so I can try the zero on my 29er (which I ride more often). Perhaps that would help me get use to “the brick”.
I ordered the handlebar and they’re not charging me the shipping. Since I’m still learning and plan on trying to ride my uni with my daughter on her bike (she’s 6) I will still be on pavement often and it might help. I can always take it off if I don’t like it.
Just got back from a 6 mile ride. I think I can understand the reason Kris prefers a handle bar. When I press down on the front handle the saddle is more comfortable. Also the brake would be more accessible. Perhaps one of those death grip bars would be nice. Too bad they are no longer available.
I’m not too far from you, I’d like to check your KH out someday.
Sure as soon as it arrives and I be it together I’ll let you know. I’m a total new beginner so you’ll have to check it out for yourself and not rely on my opinion.
Where did you get it? UDC has been sold out for a while…
I’d say municycle.ca.
Yes that is where I got it from. I had looked on unicycle.com and they were sold out. I saw that Vertigo got hers from Canada so I gave that a try. And like she said it ended up being a little cheaper due to the exchange rate.
How much was shipping to you and taxes?
I did flat rate shipping via Canada Post for 30 CAD and wasn’t charged tax unless that was included in the price. It passed through US Customs without any duty charges or fees. Shipping time was 11 days including weekends and several days in US Customs.
Guess that’s an option for me, though with the 650b coming out in April maybe I’ll wait for that.
Kh26 arrived today and it’s been put together. What tire pressure do you guys normally run for muni riding?
Do you guys plug the extra hole in the cranks to prevent getting filled with debris? If so what do you use for a plug?
This thing looks much nicer in person than any pictures I have seen. Now I just need to get some nice weather outside .
I had to pay $46 COD to UPS.
Glad it arrived. It’s such a great uni. So darn light and the tire is cushy.
So that was UPS brokerage fee to clear customs, right? I read some where that they charge a brokerage fee no matter if the item is actually charged duty by US Customs. I think USPS doesn’t charge a fee unless US Customs requires them to collect duty on the shipment.
