i just got a new one:( there should be free upgrades because they release new ones so often:(
It’s not like the old ones suck. But if you really need the absolutely latest, I think I recall reading something about a rebate if you sent in your old one for recycling, anyone else?
Be happy you didn’t just buy an iPhone right before the announced price drop.
Because twice a year is just so often.
But I am really tempted to get the iTouch.
I don’t like the way they look.
I got a 2nd gen iPod nano, and in my opinion, it’s perfect. As weird and picky as it sounds, the new nanos look too big and square.
And what’s with the iPod touch? It looks like just an iPhone that you can’t make calls on
The new Nano will also do video. That’s nice to know after my daughter’s 30gig HD unit died, they want $150 for a hard drive, the 8 gig Nano is $200.
Im so anxious for my [old] ipod nano to screw up so I can take it back and get the new one. The 4 gig is the same price as my old 2 gig AND the new one plays video! Break ipod break!!!
They wont replace old ones with new models, they give a refurbished one from your gen.
And the itouch would be cool if it had more capacity. But I’m pumped about the 160 gb one.
I don’t get it. Don’t you have to have some kind of garantee to send them back and get another one?
I bought mine from Best buy, and I bought the two year protection plan. So if [when] somthing goes wrong (internally) then I can get any new one of the same price. Or I can pay the difference and get one of higher value.
well there must be some kind nof evil bug you can download for it intentionally to kill it!!
Yeah, I was actually thinking about bricking it! But I wont, ill just let somthing happen naturally…With maybe, just a liiiiittle push in the right direction.
How much capacity do you need? 160 GB is just insanely excessive. 80 GB is excessive. I’m not keen on hard drives in portable media players anyways. Eventually the thing is going to get dropped or suffer some sort of environmental factor that may kill the hard drive. If the media player is used mostly at home and treated with care then maybe. But I still don’t trust those mini hard drives.
Flash memory is the way to go for a portable device.
8 GB will hold about 100+ albums encoded at 192 VBR. 16 GB will get you about 200+ albums. I’d consider that a well stocked media player. Keep about half the memory as your core listening library and cycle out the rest as you see fit for music and video.
The downside to cycling music and video on a flash device is the time needed. Copying gigabytes can take a while.
what’s the difference between the iTouch and the iPhone?
No phone.
And no service contract.
If I were in the market for a new DAP, I would probably get either the 80GB or 160GB Classic.
That said, I like to spend money I don’t have on excessive hardware. I also like to keep pretty much my whole music collection in my pocket, and more than half of my collection is in some kind of lossless format.
I’m pretty sure I’m in the minority, but I like that options like these new iPods exist.
I buy an iPod for the music, not the video. Watching a full length feature film on a 2.5 inch screen doesn’t appeal to me. Asides from some short skiing and snowmachining clips I don’t use the video.
