My names David.
I picked up a unicycle from a local fire station who was throwing it away early this year. Decided, might as well, since i love riding road bikes, bmx, mountain bikes, and everything else with wheels. Anyway, started getting a feel for the thing by learning next to my dresser in my room. After I road a few feet inside, i brought it outside and the rest was history. Now, I am upto being able to ride about a block, and able to every so often i can manage to make a lap around my car. I can’t get on the bike without holding onto something which sucks.
Anyway. I got the unicycle out the trash. It was all chrome and a lil rusty. Got out the old wire brush and a light sand paper.
And here’s how it stands today.
Thought about redoing everything to: All pure Flat Black, with white spokes.
or is this set up better. LMK
Welcome to the forum.
And congrats on learning hw to ride.
That’s one more of us and one less of them.
The bearing system on that uni is called ‘lollipop bearings’ and are quite remarkably crap.
Not bad for something you got out the trash, but not good.
Expect them to tear out of the metal frame before to very long.
I wouldn’t spend too much time, money or effort on this uni and wouldn’t recommend you do anything that resembles jumping on this uni either.
Save your money and buy yourself something nice, or at least start saving so you’ll have something together for when this one breaks down.
Hey NolaDC5! I agree with GILD. What part of NOLA are you in? We go every year in JUly for my birthday. It would be cool to have someone to uni with in NOLA!!
My friend Adam has one just like yours, same color too. He’s a bit heavy and I get a kick out of watching him learn:D The tire gets squished to the side, his converse hit the spokes and then the ground and he follows shortly after.
I think your uni would be cool all murdered out but, like GILD said, don’t waste too much time on the ‘crapperkeeper’ one…lol
One possible brand name for your unicycle is Cycle Pro, though those cycles came under numerous labels. From Taiwan.
The actual bearings are fine, but the problem with those lolipops is the way they attach to the fork. Any engineer will tell you, you don’t want to screw bolts into a non-flat surface. That’s the problem.
The other problem with yours is the seat. Replace the seat and post and you’ve got a nice, serviceable learner machine that you can pass from rider to rider as they learn the basics. Just don’t use it to jump off things, or even for a lot of hopping.
Hopping bent the cranks on a set of those we bought for a school once, to the point where the school had to ban hopping. They were all hopping because it’s easier than riding. You can learn to hop on a unicycle much quicker than learning to ride it!
Im located in harahan, which is 5 minutes away from the metairie area and about 10minutes west of uptown.
Yeah, i think im going to end up doing the all flat back and white…I already have the paint.
THanks for all the information. I don’t plan on hopping anytime soon. I want to learn to control myself. As in, ride in a straight line, not all zig zagish. haha.
What kind of seat do yall recommend. Can i just take one off my bicycle or is it best to have a different unicycle seat.
Yeah, the clamp doesn’t even work. The clamp is made so you can adjust the seat post without a wrench, but the bolt turns with the little lever. Im going to try to put a lock nut on it one of these days to see if maybe that works.
What kind of seat do you recommend though, after riding the inside of my thighs feel hurt from brushing up on the sides of the seat and now i look black n blue.
