City’s unicyclists plan to unite

One can be a lonely number - especially for someone who has made unicycling
a hobby. There is no shortage of organizations for bicyclists looking to
find touring or racing companions. But for those partial to one-wheeled
cycles, there has been no forum for meeting like-minded souls.

Enter Mission Hill resident Michael Robert.

Robert, who has been unicycling for nearly 10 years, wants to unify
unicyclists into a social club. "One on One," as Robert has dubbed the club,
will be the first social-riding club for unicyclists in Boston.

The meetings will be open to people of all ages and experience levels. The
club's first meeting will be held, naturally, on May 1. One-wheeled riders
are to unite at 6 p.m. at the children's play- ground at Boston Common. For
details, call Michael Robert at 723-7415 (work).

Re: New Boston Club

For what it’s worth, the San Francisco Bay Area unicyclists have been pretty
successful holding unicycle rides during the summer. The favorite spot is
Golden Gate Park, though rides through the city (and even the hills of
Berkeley) have taken place. Each group (“pack” may be a more apt term!) runs
from about 6-10 unicyclists. Shutterbugs love the spectacle.

It's nice to see someone carrying on the tradition of the late

Dr. Claude Shannon of MIT, one of the founder members of the Unicycling Society
of America.

I want in

I am a student at Northeastern University and want to know more about this club. I have been tying to start a club to teach students how to ride unicycles at my university which as been somewhat successful but I also wanted to make a riding club once people have learned. When is the next meeting/ride?
Thanks

You are aware that this thread is over ten years old?

Hi suttorane,

you’d better be giving a try to this thread for the Boston area.

Definitely more recent posts even though it isn’t easy to plan rides regularly and well in advance

what is the thread of bostan area?

For Boston clubs I would check out either the mountainuni rides group on Facebook which hasn’t been too active lately but has a good amount of people in it, or the MIT juggling club. There aren’t too many unicyclists there but I’ve seen a few every once in a while. They meet Sundays in building 19 from 2-6 I’m pretty sure. I live in rochester NY but am from Boston so I’m back every so often and a club would be great, I would love to ride with more people in the area.
