New Bedford BC Wheel !!!!

When I was at The TOQUE games, which were awesome – thank you Carl, Sara, and the rest of the organizers. Darren Bedford had a made a new style of BC wheel. It is so much fun to ride around. The new wheel is a rear trials wheel (a 2.5 Luna) with platforms which are about 3.5 inches deeps and 7 inches long. I found the tire gave the BC a lot more spring than the BMX tires do, this it made a bit easier to get height when bunny hopping, the fat tire also takes some of the impact from drops and saves your knees a little bit. The new platforms also make it easier on landings. This BC wheel is so much fun!!!

I’ll post some picture of the BC wheel and of me riding it in the next day or two

that’s pretty awesome. I just tried riding a BC Wheel the first time yesterday, on my friend’s homemade one. except it’s really weak and has really tiny platforms, and the axle is bent pretty bad… once I get some money, I’ll buy a Bedford.

PS can you ride a BC Wheel one footed? or is it at least possible?

Sweet, I think I rode it at Toque. I found it much easier. I even have trouble riding my own now, but I wasn’t very good anyway. Any idea on price? Here’s a pic I have of me riding it, taken by Mike Carroll, it will soon be in my gallery along with others.

Edit: Oh yeah Jeff is a nut on the BC. I think he was jumping higher on it then I can on my uni. You should put up a video or a small section in your next movie.

Yeah it is possible to one foot on a BC. I have only been able to do it going down a hill and it helps if the tire is wet. You basically lean the wheel against your leg and while you going down an incline and kick the other off the wheel, then just hope for the best.

Jeff

hmm, that’s interesting. so you just let the tire rub on your leg a bunch? doesn’t that burn? I got pretty bad tire burn on my legs from trying to learn to ride two footed yesterday…

yeh i would think it would

i would just hope, pray, and wear long pants

whoa i thought dachibald was like way older :astonished: maybe lots of people i think are old are acctualy younger then me

When I’m doing one foot BC I at least wear pants or shin pads. You’d get some serrious legs burns other wise.

Jeff

The Bedford Trials BC Wheel was a big hit at the TOque games.

It comes with a Sealed bearing alloy black hub,
DT Champion stainless black spokes,
Alex ALDX32 black trials rim,
Luna trials tire
Bedford PRO alloy platforms powder coated black

It is 299.00 Cdn / 249.00 US

So many people have told me how nice the Bedford BC wheels are to ride vs their homemade ones.
They are so smooth and much eaiser to ride.

The new Bedford Trials BC wheel uses the Pro platforms giving your whole foot a place to rest on. This is a big help for jumping stairs or hopping onto platforms.

Jeff Groves can hop onto a picnic table with it.
Taking the BC wheel to unreal new heights !!!

The PRo platforms are available to install on your older model Bedford BC wheels if you are looking to upgrade. Just 95.00 Cdn / 79.00 US per pair.

My God!!!
Jeff please do us all the favor of posting a vid of that.
Please.

/thinking that can’t be a rolling hop - while not seeing it any other way

Drew

He jumped over a 2’ sandwich board on the new Bedford Trials BC wheel to win the Bedford BC wheel Best Trick competition at the TOque games.

He starts off with one foot on the wheel, gives it a push and gets the other foot on and then bunny hops over pretty much anything at this point !

You may have to wait for the next DVD that will be released in the summer.

Dan Heaton and Jeff Groves have some KILLER footage of BC wheel riding. I think is is better than most of the things being done on unicycles.
I was so impressed when I saw the rough clips
a few months ago. Unreal stuff.

Ryan Atkins is in the footage as well. I donated a trials BC wheel to TOque for the winner of the trials competition. Ryan ended up winning it.

Impossible wheel - not any longer !!!

I can’t wait for the DVD.

Darren

Hi,

here is a link to one BC clip from Toque.

Thank you!

/figured there would be some conflict between “released and wait for DVD” but had to try anyway!

the new trials BC wheel

Hey
Sorry about the post above, I was trying to attach a photo but it didn’t work. So I just put all my BC wheel photos in a gallery. There’s one of the wheel, two of me trying to grind, and a sequence shot of hopping on to a bench. Here’s the link: http://gallery.unicyclist.com/view_album.php?page=1

Unfortunately I can’t post any videos of me riding. I promised Dan Heaton I wouldn’t.

I can’t even ride a(n) UW two-footed but my idea of one-footed UW-ing
is that you lean the wheel such that the platform you are standing on
is more or less above the tyre contact patch. Then the tyre shouldn’t
rub your leg too much. You probably need a bit of rubbing or the wheel
would topple over.

I knew what they are but indeed I mixed the names up. What I said
about leaning applied to a BC wheel.

(It would be interesting if anyone could ride a(n) UW one-footed.)
