Took the new baby out for a ride last night.
(Black Yuni 29" with 125mm cranks and KH seat)
I ride from my house to the ballfield where one (or both) of my daughters play softball. What recently took my 40 minutes on my Frankenstein 24, took only 27 minutes on the 29er. (The 40 minute ride had some speed riding and some regular riding…The 27 minute ride I was trying to go fast. So, its not exactly a fair comparison…) I don’t know the exact distance so couldn’t calculate average speed.
However, Loveliest Wife got me a cool little GPS for our anniversary. It has settings that will calculate everthing you want to know. (speed, average speed, distance traveled, ft above sea level, etc.) On a good day it will figure my position on earth to within 12 feet.
I was able to idle and to ride backwards with only a little practice. (Not as good at either as on the 24, but good enough idling to wait my turn at a stoplight…)
I know that most of the “us against them” (29er vs Coker) ribbing is in good fun. (An being an admitted Unicycle addict, I’ll own a Coker one day).
But based on all of the learned advice I got on this forum, I now am proudly in the 29er camp. The 29 is responsive, I can idle and ride backwards, stop, turn…
I could freemount the Coker. Love cruising at high speed. I’m sorry I could only get one of the two in question. …some day…
GILD: love new toys, that’s the problem.
RAPHAEL: I’m 6-1. Weigh 189 (I’m very proud to say. This morning I’m my lightest in 10 years.) This 29 is light, so it has less inertia than the coker. Easier to stop and idling is really not a problem.
