I was wondering if anyone could help me with this.
I just got a shiny new laptop with Vista and I’m trying to use my built in webcam to record video and save it. It works perfectly with MSN and other applications but I can’t seem to find a program that will save my video.
I’ve tried using Windows Movie Maker, but it doesn’t have a webcam capture option like it did in Win XP.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do and what programs I can use?
Some webcams can’t (or don’t) record video. I got a new laptop last month; it has an integrated webcam that can stream video for video chat, and it can take still pictures, but it doesn’t capture video.
That’s probably the case with yours…
Hey I found out how to do it! Just tried it myself and it works great, although it’s slightly confusing, and I haven’t figured out how to get audio yet…
Anyway it turns out there’s a program already included with the Acer (at least, there is with mine, your’s should be the same).
Go to c:\windows\SUYIN NB Cam\LiweCam.exe and select your webcam from the devices menu.
You also have to specify the save location and the max. captured file size… seems kind of odd.
Actually the whole thing is kinda of obscure, but hey, it works.
Ah, I figured out how to record audio along with it. There is an option under Capture you have to select to record audio, but I did that and it didn’t work.
Turns out that the other day I had enabled “stereo mix” under recording in control panel/sound options, in order to get audio on a game I was playing. I had to disable that to capture audio…
