Hey, ive got over an hours worth of riding footage on my mini DV tape on my sony handycam DCR-HC30E PAL.

i want to get this onto my PC and movie maker. i used to put it onto my mac using a firewire cord into the fire wire spot on the computer. my PC doesnt have a firewire spot so i cant whack the plug in.

Does anybody know the best way to get this footage off the tape and onto my PC?

Buy a Firewire (IEEE 1394) card for the computer. They have come down in price. You can find them now for under $20 in the US. Don’t know how much they are in Australia.

If you have a laptop then it’s going to be more expensive to add a Firewire port. If that’s the case then you might want to take the camera to a friends house that has a PC with Firewire then transfer the files to your laptop over the network.

i have a tower desktop pc

so something like this say?

i assume it will fit in my computer, would there be any reason not to?

Yup. That will work. It’s a standard PCI card.
