Need Rec on typing program for kids

Hi

Here’s a shot in the dark.

Anyone have a recommendation for a fun and decent typing program for kids?

I need a program for my classroom. We have two donated copies of a Reader Rabbit typing, but it’s not very good. The kids figured out how to cheat on the assessment test and it doesn’t really do a good job of introducing the student to the keys.

I hated the stupid typing thing we had to do in 5th grade…

When I was in elementary school we had a typing program that featured Mario. you have to type the letters quick enough to get through the levels. It was pretty fun at the time, I guess. I don’t remember its name though.

there’s a zombie typing game. forgot the name…also, there’s a few keyboards that have no markings on them. just black keys. those stop kids from looking at the keys and makes them waaay faster. those keyboards are expensive though, and you could do the same thing with a big black marker.

My class had orage slips thats we called “key condom” that fits over that certain type of keyborad and blocks out the letter, of course you can just lift the plastic up

ohh, I remember that one!! it was so much fun. I think it’s called Mario Teaches Typing or something.

there’s also Mavis Beacon I believe it’s called, with a bunch of typing games.

that what we had… its pretty good

Get Them AIM, they will learn to type in no time.

ahhh, I just had a full post all typed out and then I hit X to close the other site (firefox, tabbed browsing)…

anyway, it was about how I remembered that we used a program called PAWS “Microtype, the Wonderful World of Paws” to learn to type in elementary school. This was back in the 90’s though…and on 5.25" disks…on black/green monitors…

That would be The Typing of the Dead, which remains my favorite typing game ever. It’s probably not exactly very suitable for young kids though

The keyboard you speak of is the Das Keyboard, which at $70 is probably far too much.

My old keyboarding teacher popped out the keys on one of the keyboards and rearranged the letters (except for f and j), then we took our typing tests on that one.
