Need help on making a motorized unicycle

Hi,
I’m a university student from Malaysia and I am currently involved in a project of making a motorized unicycle. I was wondering if you guys could help me out. I’m kinda new to the unicycle and need assistance, haha. If you have any information or any sites about this, please do let me know. Thanx a lot.

on youtube.com type in electric unicycle(i think) and it has a plan there and it cost about $1000

This is the site you’re looking for.

I was just thinkin about a motorized uni the other day. I recently say a brochure for some motorized bicycles. They were kinda neat.

aren’t those called motorcycles?

or mo-peds (pedal or motor)

Welcome!

i once was obsessed with building a motorized uni. i did out all the calculations, and found that a motor from a cordless drill is about perfect, if you gear it down with a 1:1.6 gear ratio made from a bike chain and sprockets.

a motorized uni would be so cool to have

It’d be possible, I actually started on one once. The trick is in getting good throttle response, which is also why I abandoned my project halfway through. I was using an internal combustion motor from a chainsaw, and the ‘lag’ between pressing the throttle, and the motor actually revving up is too big. An electric motor has much better throttle response, but the regulators needed for that are quite expensive…

A French stunt show run by a man called Jack Chabanais features an internal combustion powered unicycle, his site has some pictures and a video. Thought that might be of interest. He also mentions that he had to practice 3 hours a day for 3 months to learn to ride this, even though he is a highly skilled rider of motorcross bikes, stunt bikes and other odd automotive contraptions. This may just be publicity hype however.
