I’ve been unicycling for just over a year now and am planning on Moab this year.
My buddy and I were hoping to fly into Salt Lake City late Thursday or early Friday… and flying out Sunday evening from SLC.
The guys who are also comming from CA all seem to be flying back on Monday.
If there is anyone out there that happens to be planning on getting back to SLC sunday evening, (from and to the airport would work best for a rental car) I would really appreciate a ride for ME and my friend.
So if you have 2 empty seats and room for 2 more 24" Muni’s we can all split the cost of a rental car for that weekend… or if its your own car, we can pay for gas.
(we are 20, so therefore can’t rent one ourselves) unless Utah rental car laws differ from Cali’s on that account. I guess thats one thing I should also look into.
also, if you know someone I should get in contact w/ about this please let me know.
The Sunday return is going to be the tough part. To fly home on Sunday you basically have to miss the Sunday ride. I’ve only done the trail-to-airport routine once, with a much shorter drive, but it can be stressful. Basically you need to allow time to change and pack the unicycles, at least 4.5 hours to be safe on your drive time, plus another 1.5 hours (minimum) when you arrive at the airport to allow for car return, check-in and security. Figure at least seven hours to be safe.
You could try also contacting Rolf Thompson through the moabmunifest.com web site, to put the word out you’re looking for either fellow travelers going home Sunday, or also Utah people who are driving home Sunday. There might actually be more of those, and if they’re from Utah they’re almost guaranteed to be from the general area of SLC. It might work out.
check out the outfitters and bike shops that run the tours. they may have a shuttle from slc and moab. next time fly to grand junction it is 2 or more hours gloser to moab.
grand junction is three hours closer. try adventure cyclists or poison spider cycles out of moab may be able to arrange a shuttle out of grand junction or slc. i think it would be a super sweet ride from grand junction to moab. both the kokopeiil and the book cliffs are closer to grand junction than moab. any way that you get there it will be worth the effort. be sure to see the arches. =D
