NAUCC Press Coverage

Here’s the first article I’ve found on the NAUCC from The Salt Lake Tribune. National meet gives unicyclists chance to balance skills, dreams - July 19, 2004

Cheers to all who had the good fortune to attend.

And cheers to everyone else, too.

I came across the article this morning in the paper and found it really thin. I was there watching the reporter interview the various unicyclists and I have trouble believing that this was the article that resulted from the interviews.

The championships and conference was incredible and inspiring! It was much, much more than was communicated in the article.

Yes, I was lucky enough to have been able to attend. However, now I have wanderlust to head west again. Salt Lake City area is incredibly beautiful!

The article also implies Aspenmike won the 10K. If that’s the case, Congratulations Mike! All that high altitude riding is paying off…

Quote from Article:
"And just try staying upright while pedaling along at a 15 mile-per-hour clip for 10 kilometers, as Tierney did Sunday, the last day of competition, on Soldier Hollow’s currently snow-free cross country skiing course. “I worked hard for this,” Tierney said, still panting from his victory. “I take this very seriously.”

He didn’t just win it. He blew everyone else out of the water. The next closest rider (Brian Hansen on a 28" with tiny cranks) entered his “victory” lap just slightly after Mike had already finished the entire 10K.

I was astonished at how fast everyone was! Especially considering the altitude and the somewhat steep sections.

Here’s a link to our local newspaper article on my win, and the event. I couldnt get Alans great pictures to the paper in time, so they used one from their database.
Cheers.
