Hi ya’ll
i had the bright idea of starting a diary thing
i have just recently learnt to ride a unicycle and m going to get more into street unicycling
so this is kind of a learning journal but not …
Cool…be sure to post lots of pictures and video too…it keeps me going when I can’t get out there myself
Good luck with your learning…

So this is your unicycle log on the web. A kind of web log on the forum.
There’s been several threads like this lately. I wonder if there could be a “Rider Logs” sub-forum here.
Hey
Went out today to start learning how to free mount
going alright
I got frustrated because I could only get up but the n it seemed to fall behind me…
help!
You might be stepping too heavily on the rearward pedal, as you step up on to the unicycle.
You need to practice… What Unibokk said is correct, you must be pressing to hard on the first pedal.
This is the best video ever on freemounting, it really works for all wheel sizes.
Let me see if I can cross link to a related post I put up yesterday…
I found the quickest way to get it right is to stop and think about where its going wrong…sounds obvious doesn’t it but I think we sometimes make the same mistake over and over again. By stopping and analysing what’s happening you can quickly fix mistakes. Try filming yourself too from different angles…I found that most instructive.

Today’s attempt
I tried to freemount more today and again failed miserably
IT’S GETTING BETTER THOUGH
thanks for the tips
Actually this is exactly a Learning Journal thing. Post it there so others can ‘learnt’ from your experience in the future. No sense in multiple learning threads where most will die in obscurity. If you post in the learning journal new unicyclists will be able to learn from your progress long after your an accomplished rider. A plus with the Learning journal is you’ll make friends with people who are just a few weeks ahead of or behind you in skill, all with equal enthusiasm for learning. You will meet a similar group of people and rely on each other for fresh info instead of accomplished riders trying to remember how hard it was in the beginning. You will be able to share info about learning that is still fresh in the minds of those that are learning to ride. I think you will progress faster sharing in the learning journal, it worked great for me and I made a few friends with similar experience. I received a lot of help and gave a little help… Priceless. Good luck. Welcome to the uni forum.

Today’s attempt
went out today for more attempts at unicycling
watched the video recommended by Shmolagin
WORKED REALLY WELL
i managed to free mount the damn thing 5/6 times
getting better although when i do i find my footing is obscure and has weird grip on my pedals so I fall off easier.
sigh
anyway… other than that it was good
That’s great! I really like that video, as it is entertaining and explaining.
nailed freemounting
YAY
today i went out for a solid hour, and nailed freemounting
I improved so much. i get it 4/5 tries now
a little more practice is required i think
next up i’m gonna learn how to hop and idle next :|)
any tips

I’d learn to hop first, as idling doesn’t seem to be a useful skill…
Solid Progress!
I need to work harder on free mounting so that I can ride wherever and wont need to walk back to the pole whenever I fall off (often). I have been using the curb to mount and am fairly proficient at that.
Keep us posted!
