my trip to New Zealand

Hello everybody,

Before and after UNICON XV, I will be doing a self supported unicycle tour across New Zealand on my coker Big one. I will spend a month from december 20th 2009 to January 17th 2010 visiting this beautiful country. I have already booked my hostels for the day I’ll arrive in Auckland and for the UNICON period. I’m writing this down because I would really appreciate to have suggestions of things to do/to see from people that have been there or that live in the cities I will visit.

So here is what my trip looks like(subject to change):

  • Auckland: December 20th to 23th (lodging at the YHA international hostel)
  • Hamilton: December 23th to 25th
  • Rotorua: December 25th to 28th ( I want to see those huge geysers! )
    Taking the bus to UNICON in Wellington
  • Wellington: December 28th to January 7th (lodging at the Downtown Backpackers hostel)
    Taking the ferry to Picton, then riding to Nelson
  • Nelson: January 7th to January 8 or 9th
    Problem: Is there a cheap place to sleep between Nelson and Westport, as it’s like 200km between those 2 cities.
    Westport: 2 nights
    Greymouth: 1 night
    Arthur’s pass: 2 nights
    Christchurch: The rest of the days, I’m leaving on January 17th.

What do you guys think of this?

I don’t want to do more than 100-130km of riding per day. If anyone is willing to ride with me for one or a few days, PM or talk to me at UNICON. I would really like it as I’m mostly doing this trip alone.

looks sweet you should vist Plamerston North is well, theres like 3 riders here that would ride to welly or something with you is well. One of them being me. :smiley: but yea Palmey is a cool city. If you do decide to stop In plamey for a night you could stay at my place for free. my mum wouldnt care lol. PM me if you do

Murchison is half wayish between Nelson and Westport, there’s good campgrounds/motels/backpackers etc to stay at…I work there over summer, it’s nice and good if you’re into white water kayaking at all too.

I’m keen to ride heaps is well but I dont think I would be able to afford bus/plane/ferry tickets back

Awesome! Enjoy it, my family went to NZ when I was in 5th grade, and it was AWESOME!!! :smiley:
