Those are some very nice pictures. You got a lot of good shots. I was usually too tired, too slow, or too lazy to pull out my camera in many places.

It’s turning into an eternal nightmare to remove.

I had already decided to get a top-of-the-line MUni with Profile junk and brakes and such. But I’m still hoping to get this wheel back in working order. I don’t want that broken crank to win!

I had previosly cross thread the original crank with a pedal, and when I put this replacement crank on, it was the first time I put a crank on. I used a metal hammer to start with. BIG F#@%ING MISTAKE! The park puller won’t fit in there no more. THe auto and cycle places can’t get it off. I can’t get it off. The metal is too soft to dremmel the outer edge that got pinged with the hammer (so I can use the park tool). I tried hammering it from the back with a hammer and a long metal post. I may have damaged the bearing, I did ping the frame a little too (but not too bad) I’m off to buy a small puller if this little town’s auto parts store has one. If not, then I’ll be off my wheel till the new one arrives. I always thought I was mechanically inclined, but not today.

Those are some very fine pictures!

Who’s the idio…, I mean intrepid soul on the craggy precipice?

The little girl that starts off part 2 is another inspiration for my daughter, too.

Thanks for sharing!

That was Karl Thompson on the cliff.

I forget the little girls name, but she had just gotten her first free mount about 5 minutes before I took her picture. She got a bunch more after that. She liked showing us all.

Since the crank is totally hosed, why not just hacksaw it off?

I thought of that, as long as I don’t mess up the axle, although Scot Cooper and others (as well as myself) think it looks bent. But I’d like to keep it un-muffed just in case it’s still good.

My photos are now up on Shutterfly:

I probably have some of the names wrong.

If any of them interest folks, feel free to order prints.

I believe the little girl is Rolf’s daughter, but I can’t remember her name.

That was definitely Karl Thompson on the cliff. Quite the amazing sight, while we all stood there and clicked away with our cameras! I was standing next to Rolf (his dad), and asked if he was scared. Rolf said something like “Nope.” I was still scared. It’s a couple of hundred feet of air directly below that precipice. Yes, it’s at least as high as it looks in the picture. Though it actually looks less scary when you’re over there. I got a picture of myself up there, but on a wussier spot, not up where Karl was!

For your dead (half) crank, it sounds like you just need to get into the threads for your puller to work. Some bike shops have a tap for those things, to straighten you out. Use caution with the gear puller. If there is too much force on the end of the axle, it can split the threaded part there; a fate that happened to my axle after we were overhauling it subsequent to taking the “Things not to do #1” picture: http://www.unicycling.com/things/index.htm

The little cutie is indeed my daughter, Lindsay Jane. She is 8 years old and has been riding her uni to school and back for months. Prior to the day of the photo, however, she had not been able to free mount. I am/was very proud when she approached me and announced that she had figured it out (the free mounting thing, that is). The MUni Fest had several kids in the 8 to 12 age range. They all had a great time with each other.

p.s. I am also the idio…'s father, to know me is to understand him…

Why the hell can’t you find a decent cup of coffee in the entire freakin’ state of utah? What the hell? Polygamists need to stay up late, right? Godammit!

Where is the number plates?

In Canada, and with this example, I assume it to be the same in the US, you only need rear plates. At one point both front and back were necessary, but things have since changed (in the past 10-15 years, I’d say).

Later,
Eli.

Hey fatguy, guess you have to be alive to bitch, right? Small suggestion: when you get to the top of that hill you’re working on, take a moment to stick your head in a vice and squeeze out all that extra hostility you’re carrying around.

There’s lots of good coffee in Utah…we just keep it hidden from people with negative attitudes.

In New York they have to have front and rear license plates, but not in Pennsylvania. Those are the only two states I’m in frequently so I’m not sure about the rest of the country.
