My first UNI injury

YES! today i had my first decent UNI induced injury, its not a big one but hey a mans gotta start some where right… I did it in a fairly pathetic way though, I finally learned to do a “suicide mount” as its called on unicycling.org and then after a couple times gettin it good I some how slipped and slashed my calf, well i went to the good ol’ doc and got 27 stitches then came home and continued to attempt to perfect the mount…how about your war stories eh?

Pictures please!

Ill get on that, it just happened like 2 hours ago so i havent had much time…by tomorrow i should have some

Do you have metal pedals or plastic pedals?

I always wear my Roach or 661 pads when I jump around on grippy metal pedals. I know the leg armour has saved me from several trips to the emergency room to get stitched up. The armour is cheaper than stitches.

I have a good scar from 8 stiches in my leg that I did this summer on a failed unispin without pads, 27 is a good number.

Way to join the club with a bang.

Congratulations!
I’v never had any huge incidents… My worst would be when I was MUniing downhill. I fell forwards, and slid about 15 to 20 feet and ended up with a huge scar on my thigh. It hurt.

I remember that one;) . While showing off, too. How ironic.

On sunday I was riding in the Embarcaderro in SF, and I was doing trials (hops 18-24", crankgrabs 28-32"). I landed 1 24" hop, a bunch of 22s, and then got tired. After that I tried a 23", and just couldn’t do it. It was onto a wall only about 14" wide, and the final time I fell over the wall, put out my arm looking for dirt. Sadly it was cement, and it arrived late. 26" late to be exact. By the time I noticed the ground was so low it was too late, and I bruised my hip and twited my shoulder. It hurt, but I’m up and training today:) . Never got stiches unicycling (knocking on wood), but I have had a fair share of cuts, briuses, and sprains.

27 stitches!!! That’s totally BRUTAL!!! \m/ RIDE ON!!!

(get some armor too, hell i’ll send you my old shin guards)

I use metal but the stitches didnt acually come from the pedals, the cut happened because i jumped too high and when i brought my leg down i sliced it on a sorta sharp part of the screw thing on the seat post clamp. Not as heroic as the pedals but it’ll work. (STill workin on taking the picture, my mother has her digi-camera at work, shell be bringin it home soon.

No pics, no care.

  1. Take pics
  2. Host pics
  3. Post pics

I used to be able to do a suicide mount, but about a week ago I tried it again (since I haven’t tried it in about a week or two) and a did it a couple time ok, then I jump and sacked myself horrible. I was down for at least 5 minutes. Now I’m too freaked out to try one ever without a can, even with one I’m freaked out!

ya, ive never sacked myself on a suicide mount before but, brett, i feel your pain

My worst injury was probably when i was going really fast on my 20" on a gravel road and hit like a tiny rock and like flew ten feet, tore up my knee and elbows

and from now on i always wear shin and arm armour

Wow. dood, 27 stitches, man oh man, that is one fine gash! :astonished:

War stories…well I might as well get all the milage I can out of mine: broke my fibula down near my ankle when I messed up on the second to last step of a flight of concrete stairs I was hopping down on my Trials uni. 5 1/2 weeks out of the cast, I am riding a two wheeler but the leg is still too weak to do any uni’ing. I’ve been working out at the gym like crazy so that I can get back to one wheeling… it’s been almost three months of no riding and I’m starting to miss it a lot.

That care of that leg, don’t overdo it while the wound heals.

later,
Erin

Ya, but I do the suicide mount super werid. I just need to pratice it a lot more and with a can. I haven’t practiced forever.
