Hello everyone. As the subject states, this is my first post. I am a unicycling newcomer from the beautiful land of Hawaii. I have been riding for a few months and currently only own a 20 in Torker. Eventually I hope to get a better cycle, but that will come after I learn how to ride a bit better.
I have been reading posts on this group for about a week now and I must thank you all for posting everything you have. I don’t know anyone in Hawaii that rides, I am in fact the only person I have ever seen ride a unicycle, so this group has been my only source of info from real riders.
I look forward to learning much more from all you unicycling veterans out there and welcome any input you might have for me.
Congrats, and welcome aboard! I am always psyched whenever I find out someone new learned about this. One of the guys I work with bought his first uni today. unicycling is addictive for sure. The only input I have is to keep riding and please keep sharing your progress with this group. It is inspiring to here of everyone’s successes and we can all relate to everyone’s failures and frustration. Good luck!

Daino,
I know what it’s like not to have many people to ride with. And, in as much as
I greatly sympathize with you, I’d like to make this offer: Send me a check for
airfare and I’ll be out there in a flash to provide all the instruction I can.
Welcome!

It’s always great to hear new people saying they’ve just gotten started on
one wheel
I’m sure someone from the group went out to Hawaii a number of months ago
(Carl Hoyer maybe?) and hooked up with another rider known to folks in a
bike shop. I’ve just had a look and, sure enough, it was Carl. He’s posted
some pictures at http://community.webshots.com/album/25880199LiVCHhtbqH
which include some of a guy called Layne. You can find his post about the
trip and where to find Layne at http://www.unicyclist.com/forums/showthread.php?s=c9cd8e674cd9b29e4d957a015b

best way to meet other unicyclists is simply to ride in public places as often as possible
i recently met another onewheelbandisto while pumping my tyre at a garage
that reminds me, i noticed a flat tyre on my 20" last night
excuse me
Yeah, so far that’s a bust for me. Especially disappointing considering I ride around a college campus. I thought of all places a college campus would foster people who like to try different things.
daino149 didn’t mention which island he lives on. I’ve been to Maui, Oahu,
and the big island. I’ll definitely be back. Watch out, daino149, people are
going to start chumming up to you for a place to stay for their vacations…
I was in Oahu back in November when Carl was there, but I didn’t bring a
unicycle. The trails Carl and Layne went on sure looked like fun though!
Here’s my vacation pictures (no unicycles) if you’re interested:

You could always come down here (Sacramento area) as well. Not that I’m
turning down an opportunity for a MUni trip to Hawaii…
I am from the island of Oahu. I live about three miles east of Waikiki. Thanks for all the posts. The 14 or so replies came as a shock to me. Keep them coming.
Aloha,
Daniel
PS: i heard about the guy that works at “The Bike Shop” I have just never got the chance to meet him. I shall have to try again.
The Australian Unicycle team will be travelling to Seatle via Hawaii and Vancouver. If you would like to do some riding from the 13-17 July or 5-7 August contact unicyc@afmagic .com.
