My brother Gary had asked me to write a song for him, about his upcoming bone marrow transplant, (which is set for New Year’s Eve!), and put it to the tune of jingle bells!
I wrote it while on my ride this morning, and we filmed it in his room today at City of Hope! It’s so awesome! He memorized my lyrics and played his guitar and sang it!
His positive attitude, great sense of humor and strong will is an inspiration to all who know him! He is a true hero to me and I feel so fortunate to have him as my brother.
That song is fun, your brother’s singing and playing makes it a hit. Hope the success with the treatment continues and your family has a Happy New Year.
Hey Terry, thanks for posting; nice Lyrics :). He’s quite the performer! How did the transplant go? My good friend, and a young man I know have both been through this, and it is a tough ordeal. Best to Gary, and your whole family!
Thanks for the kind wishes everyone. My brother had his bm transplant on New Year’s eve, and all went well! I will be visiting him today. He asked me to write him a little something about the “event”, from his pov. In fact, since he was diagnosed about 2 months ago, I’ve written several more poems for him. I’m truly inspired by his amazing strength of will, and unflappable positive outlook!
“Reborn & Renewed”
By Terry Peterson 12.31.10
So enthused, and infused
With new life imbued
I’m reborn and renewed
Like I was way back when
New stem cells take hold
In a treatment so bold
No longer feel old
Like the man I had been
With good will to bring
And a new song to sing
Like a bird on a wing
I’ll fly high once again
So when you think “hope” is lost
All your faith that it cost
Your last wishing coin tossed…
Think of me now and then
