My Bedroom Webcam

I just set this up - it’s a webcam facing towards my bed and computer so you can see me in both places. Right after I’m done doing this I’m going to watch TV, so you’ll be able to spy on my in bed. Check it out (note I didn’t give away any personal info!) - - http://unicycle123.ww.com

this is a realy dodgy idea.

What does that mean?

It means it’s a really, really bad idea. Tyler, I have not looked at nor do I intend to look at your webcam and as the parent of an 11 year old consider this more than merely a word of advice: TAKE IT DOWN.

Perhaps aim the webcam at a fish tank… this is just dangerous.

Please explain what’s wrong with it. I didn’t give out any info at all!

Tyler, go tell your parents that you have put up a webcam in your bedroom and invited anyone with Internet access to observe you.

OK, I took it down. I can’t figure out how to get the page down, but I did take the cam offline. Can someone please find out how to take the page down or should I just leave it offline?

A wise decision, Tyler. I’m sorry I can not help with the technical matters.

Ok, I feel safer now… The only personal info I said was what state I was in and my first name, is that okay to leave up if I can’t figure out how to take the page down? Thanks for your advice!

Just go tell them. Tell them about what you’re doing here. They need to know.

I did and they said that it’s good that I took the cam down and also told me not to put up personal info. C’mon, I stopped putting up personal stuff, took the cam down, so everything is FINE. Let’s just let all of this “privacy” stuff die down…

Tylercox, it has come to my attention that you are posting personally identifiable information and that you are under the age of 13. Therefore, do to legal reasons, I have banned you from posting in the forums, until further action is taken on you and your parents part so that we are in compliance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998.

In order to be able to post again, you will need to have your parents fill out this form and fax it to me:

oh yeah. i totally forgot about such laws. thanks gilby. also tyler, with the fact that we have pretty much figured out where you lived, etc, a webcam would let us know you’re home. then we can abduct you and leave you in a ditch and make the forums a happies place. i doubt anyone on these forums would mess with you, BUT you may one day post on other less friendly forums, and then you might be in trouble. also, what kind of parent (presumably) give their 11 year old a webcam?

A 10 seconds google search found me Tyler’s dad’s e-mail address. (there aren’t many lawyers named cox in port orchard) I thought about e-mailing him and telling him to supervise his son better while he’s on the internet but decided against it. Thanks Gilby, you’re helping to keep him safe. He needs to learn before he goes on to less safe forums.

//edit, Tyler, if you can still read this, when we talked about no more personal info, I meant you should change your user name to just “tyler” and get rid of port orchard out of you location. That would have been a start. Not posting any new personal information is good, but you need to get rid of that stuff in your profile as well.

Gilby let me back in after I faxed him the form. I asked Gilby over e-mail to change my name to “UniTyler” but he hasn’t answered yet.

EDIT: and I also changed my location just to “Washington.”

That’s very smart, thanks for taking everything seriously.

//edit: I don’t know if him changing your name is possible. You might just have to reregister.

I’d recommend reregistering… although you’ve changed your info, you’ve announced the changes, hence nothing has changed.

But your on the right path.

The internet is a great place to be, but many of us take a great deal of precautions to protect ourselves. Simply put, as a user (not a webmaster) it’s impossible to tell anything about anyone who views information that’s posted.

Be careful. I suspect that those of us who have been suggesting things may have been burned by identy theft, or worse… or we know of some one who has… much as I’d hate to think of myself as an adult that just prattled on…

Stay Safe.

This is funny. Fun-ny.

I dont have anything else to say.

heheheh, word.
