Howdy! Since I know all you guys just loooove guns( ), here is my Colt .44 Black Powder pistol Ive been working on. I bought it from a kit that you have to blue it and sand and polish and sand the grips and other parts and what-not. The kit saved me over $100! This gun is the most powerfull Black powder pistol ever made. So ask youselfâŚwhy not? itsâ Great fun. It measure 15-3/4" long, and 4.5 lbs. quite a big boy. I named the gun âlittle debbyâ, Debra for short, or Deb.
before (kinda before, I started working on it, and then took some pics) and after pics. I kinda have the blue âstressedâ alittle so it gives it that oldish look. Cant wait to shoot her.
Thatâs so weird⌠I have an old colt that looks almost identical to this one, except that mine is very many years old.
I also have 2 civil war muskets (with bayonets), a revolutionary war âpistolâ (thing weighs a bitâŚ), a civil war uniform sword and a couple other antique guns. Iâd be curious to know more about them. Maybe Iâll post pictures sometime.
Iâm not a gun man at all, but that thing looks like a crapload of fun at the range. It looks soooo BADASS and ghetto. It totaly looks wayyyy overpowered for its purpose, it looks like something an orc would put together.
Yep, itâs a Colt Walker! I will be using if for just plain fun shooting, and deer hunting during the black powder season.
Sugarloafer, post some pictures of your guns and I will be able to tell you what they are. Also if your gun looks almost identical to this one, itâs probably a Colt âDragoonâ. Those are later versions of this gun. They look very much the same, only a teensy bit smaller. If it is, it would be made in 1848.
Thanks for the comments, I didnât expect this much chat over me new gun. I just keep looking at herâŚwaiting to shoot her.
That pistol looks nice, except for the handle. Iâd rub a good 10-15 coats of linseed oil into the handle to give it a glossy shine.
Why donât you get a block of nice hardwood and carve your own handle? Thatâd put a nice personal touch on the kit. You could also get a scribe and put some accents on the body of the pistol⌠maybe something to match the artwork on the cylinder.
If you really want to make that pistol shine, you could inlay some silver or copper into the handle. Theyâre both very malleable metals⌠get some wire stock, carve out an artistic groove in the handle, and carefully hammer the wire into place.
PM me if you want more ideas. My dad and I have hand-built dozens of rifles and pistols⌠and we donât use kits.
Iâve got a 50 caliber smooth-bore flintlock thatâd beg to differ with you.
I have thought about it. Doing some kind of engraving. I didnât want to shine up the grips though because I like the older matte, dark look.
Also that .50 cal pistol you got is a flintlock, so thatâs one shot, then reload. This is a revolver type. This is the most powerfull BP revolver pistol ever made.
