Must-see movies?

If you want to see a really bad, but in a good way, Gene Wilder movie, then rent, sorry I mean hire, The Frisco Kid.

Which one? I liked the original better. It starred Michael Caine and I think it came out in 1969. In the more recent version (which was also very good) they could have used any old small cars. In the original, they used the very small size of the (also original) Minis to go where the bigger cop cars couldn’t follow.

And it had about the best “cliff-hanger” ending you could have…
(I don’t want to give it away)

Gene Wilder/Willy Wonka
Oddly enough, two weeks ago I did my second paid performance of the year. It was for a celebration for youth ministry teachers at a big new church in Folsom. They had this large room all themed out to Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, even down to costumed characters (no Oompas) and clips from the movie playing on two big screens.

As far as I remember, there are no unicycles in the movie, but they brought me in to liven things up while people came in. I got to tell the organizers that my dad went to school with Willy Wonka. Gene Wilder that is. They were in the same grade, and some of the same classes, from 5th grade through high school, in Milwaukee. I believe it is the actual high school shown in the film The World’s Greatest Lover.

His real name is Gerry Silberman.

Isn’t The Producers the one where they make World War II the musical? And the song goes something like…
Springtime, for Hitler, and Germaneeeee
Winter, for Poland, and Fraaaaance…

My parents have told me about it, and it sounds good, but I’ve never seen it.

yes napolian dynomite is suppose to be really good the only problem is it never came to Canada  . anybody know where i can see the trailer or teasers?

I, too, liked the original better. It’s one of those movies that you don’t forget because the ending is unexpected.
I was referring to either version, as they are both quite good.

Another movie for my list:
Arlington Road

Umm… ya it did… a couple months ago. Maybe it never came to Saskatchewan, but it sure came to Canada.
It’s still in our cheap theatre here, and in Calgary you can still see it in the real theatre. Make a road trip!

Boondock Saints
Young Frankenstein
Equilibrium
1984
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Mad Max
Run, Lola, Run
Leon The Professional
Man on Fire
My Cousin Vinnie
Heat
Dog Day Afternoon
Goodfellas
Elephant
Antitrust

Hm…that’s about all I can think of.

i wish i could drive :frowning: then i would because i really want to see it badly

Pi is brilliant, haven’t seen Requiem yet.

Andrew

Pi was one of the greatest movies I’ve ever seen.

After seeing it I actually read more about Phi and the golden ratio. It is extremely interesting. It is the only movie I have ever seen that made me want to learn more about the subject matter that I can remember.

Also, if anyone is looking for a good horror movie, check out “Sleepaway Camp” (only the first one, the rest are terrible) and “Phantasm”

I thought Pi blew, but if it got you thinking that can’t be a bad thing.

Napoleon Dynamite.

as a former movie theatre employee i still see all the movies i can for free, and i watch pretty much everything, that said i’ve been a movie nerd for 10 years or so (i’m only 23 almost 24) and i watched literally everything worth seeing in my hometown video store. Anyway, here goes my list of stuff people need to watch RIGHT NOW!
(i had a big list up here it is broken down by categories)

Classics
Citizen Kane, don’t ask just watch it
all sergio leon
Soemthing by Chaplin
Something starring Buster Keaton

Newer
American Beauty
Donnie Darko
all Kubrick
all tarantino
all kurosowa
all sergio leon
Narc

Non-English
Life is Beuatiful
Grave of the Fireflies
Akira

Action but not mindless
Leon(the professional)
Enter the Dragon

Comedy
Animal House

i could go on but i’ve exhusted the stack of dvds on my desk and other people have listed lots of good films. Check the AFI(american film institute) and the list of top 100 films of the last 100 years they made a few years ago. all of them are worth watching. Same with most oscar winning films. Not just the winners of best picture either, but screenplay, direction, etc. Not the actor/music/etc.

ill start out by saying that i am not an anime fan. despite this, there are a few anime films that i like, including princess mononoke, spirited away, ghost in the shell, and ninja scroll. i think that anyone can enjoy the first two. i would not be surprised if not many people, who are not anime fans, would like ninja scroll, since it is nothing but rape and violence. some people like ghost in the shell and some dont. i believe it to be vastly superior to akira, but many disagree. just a matter of opinion i suppose.

i will suggest a few:

the last minute (i cannot tell you what it is about, because after seeing it i still dont know)

tampopo (japanese spaghetti western, live action not a cartoon)

a pure formality (kafkaesque polanski film)

russian arc (its kinda a gimmick, but still good. the whole movie (80 mins) is filmed in one continuous shot. it is a french guy walking around a russian museum as russian history is acted out in each of the rooms. it is beautiful)

kids, or bully (both films center on children having sex, doing drugs, and engaging in violence. kids is kinda boring but bully is more exciting)

the crippled masters (kung fu flick)

edit: i would say all kubrick too if it wasnt for Lolita

i ordered the DVD off of ebay  cant wait to see it. im still ashamed it didnt come to Saskatchewan

Napolean Dynomite(ive seen it five times with my friend sin the theaters)
The wall
Nightmare Before Christmas

those are the three gretest movies of all tmie

           POW

Van Wilder
Weird Science
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
Dumb and Dumber
Team America: World Police
Napoleon Dynamite

and finally,

Pootie Tang

Sorry for the double post, but, I just remembered…

Memento

…that was a wicked movie.

Just saw ‘The Butterfly Effect’ and ‘Gothika’
Would have to recommend both. They were brilliant.
And a funny thing now - its strange, I find ‘Fight Club’ a mix of one of the most boring movies i’ve ever seen and one of the best movies i’ve ever seen…has anyone else found this with any movies they’ve seen?

Pootie? Saw Da Tae!

Dylan, if anyone can Tippitay on my Kappatown, I know it would be you
