Does anyone out there know how to transpose? I friend and I just finished transcribing a song (The Electric Light Orchestra - A Fifth of Beethoven) for a school related concert and now need to transpose some things. We need to transpose alto sax, trombone, french horn, and trumpet. Can anyone tell me what they need to change to and briefly how to do it?
i’m on thin ice here…
at first i thought your thread title said ‘music TRANSPORTATION…’
and i thought back to the days when i could pack a five piece drum kit, bass and amp, bassist, drummer and girlfriend into my nissan pulsar…
as for transposition
as i understand it, u have to determine the key that the piece is in at the mo
then decided which key u want to transpose to
determine the ‘gap’ between the two (ie E to G would be a gap of 2 full notes)
and then drop (or lift) every note/chord in the piece by that same amount
Is it on tape or CD. The Alto Sax, Trombone, French Horn and Trumpet to record it on Tape or CD. I’d be going for a 4 Track Tape Recorder or a Multi-Track Recorder to get all the Combo in for the ELO Number for the Instruments you mention. I still with the Music Business as a Song Writer and Guitarist. I want to buy another Guitar one day. I love guitar collecting as much as I do to unicycles. I hope that might help you a bit but I reckon someone like me will have other ideas than me. Try some Lower Notes if not Higher. My suggest to this; A Chord, C Chord, D Chord or E Chord. Good Luck.
I have to agree there just before I made my post after Gild there.
I didn’t see Gild’s post prior to mine. I’ll take That back. Try this Andrew.
Key of E to G as Dave Gild describe. That would be a gap 2 full notes very nicely. Sorry Dave if I had to do That again but That to me is good.
Or try this Key of D to F. That could work, may not. And so for. Until you find the right Note. I got a Drum Machine (Rhythm Programmer) but I not using it anymore and it’s For Sale as we speak. Disregard my first topic Andrew I misled there. Sorry.
Thanks guys. I really should’ve given transposing a go before starting this thread. I found a really helpful site (before checking back here for any replies) and everything worked out or at least seems to have worked out well. Now comes the fun part…playing it.
