I finally got a response from one of the artists I emailed asking for permission to use their music in our movie. I’ve got permission to use his music (I’ve just emailed him to ask if I can use a few songs) in the movie. It’s great music too. The artist is Si and the album is InnerSense. He’s a brilliant didjeridoo-ist (or whatever the word is) teamed up with a drummer for most of the songs. He also plays some other great instruments…but mainly didj.
Wow, I’m going to have to get to work shortening the movie…I just added it up and it’s hit almost 60 minutes!
Given that we are many lifetimes off Universe standards, what do you people think would be an appropriate length? I figured that since it’s on DVD, people could skip to the parts they want to see without having to waste time fast forwarding. And the downloadable version will be split up into the various sections anyway.
Ask yourself this… When Universe was over, did you find yourself wishing it was longer? Did you wish it had more hidden scenes and outakes? I did. It could have been longer and I wouldn’t have complained.
Nooooo please dont take out anything! or at least keep the outtakes/deleted scenes in a different section. the longer the better, in my opinion. btw, congrats on the soundtrack.
Hello again. I got a reply from the didj guy again saying ‘feel free to use all the songs you want’ so I’m stoked. I also realised that I have some contacts I’d forgotten about. My brother is going to get permission to use some music of a Brisbane funk band who are very good. He know’s one of them pretty well. And if I need any more, my drum teacher has recorded heaps of great stuff…and he knows people. So I’m happy. Plus my brother and I just bought a microphone so we can now do some recording if need be.
The thing about leaving it at 60 minutes is it’s nowhere near Universe standards. Yes, after watching Universe 1 and 2 I wanted an extra few ours of footage…but that’s those guys.
Believe me, most of the stuff I’m removing is unneccessary. Does 40 minutes sound okay as a rough estimate then?
More the better for me please, but the extras could include a very short version designed to show to non-unicyclists (we all know what a short span of attention those guys can have).
And can we have a directors commentary & a “making the movie” documentary & interviews with ALL the riders (and their families & pets). And a gallery of equipment broken making the movie & & & & & EVERYTHING
yeah keep it a decent length, i havent got either of the universes because all vids cost too much, and id rather have the money to get a train fare and go riding, OTG was like pound a minute of footage almost, so yeah keep it long.
