um just search for “download ares” on google and it will pop up with a million things.
and yes you can download music from ares along with everything else.

This question goes out to all Ares users.
I downloaded Ares and then when I opened it it said if I wanted to turn off or do something to my firewall. I clicked no and went to download some Ziggy Marley. But nothing downloads, it just says “connecting” in the dl window. Should I do that thing to my firewall? I just want to download things!

oh besides that it is an awesome program. You can surf the web using it and it seems it is a lot faster than internet explorer.

It could just be that Ziggy Marley’s not popular enough to show up on Ares. That’s happened to me before.
Oh, wait, I just tried it and got quite a few results. Your firewall just might be blocking it. You can open the firewall program and change it, but I dunno how, wait for John_Childs to come and tell you, he knows everything.
I’m guessing you got a dialog like what’s attached. If so, you need to select the “unblock” option so that Ares can communicate with other people on the internet.
If you didn’t select the unblock option, then you can go to the windows control panel and select the “Windows Firewall” option. Then under the “Exceptions” tab, put a checkmark next to Ares.
This wont screw up your computer, though you should not turn off the firewall completely, otherwise it’s easier for viruses to break in.

Thanks Gilby. I couldn’t find that, but I fixed it myself. In ares, I clicked control panel, then the network tab, then I selected “My computer is behind a firewall or can’t except incoming connections”
So I went to download a song and it worked! It took about 4 minutes to download a 3 minute song. Is this normal?
One more technical question. I use the internet in Ares now because I find that it is faster than Internet Explorer. However, when I click a link to open a new window, it opens a new window in Internet explorer, and doesn’t work. “this page cannot be displayed”. These windows wouldn’t work anyway for me in internet explorer because i have ads234. The question is: Is it possible to have these new windows open up IN ARES?

That sounds pretty fast if it’s a good quality song. The download speed depends on a lot of things. Your internet connection, the connection of the server(s) you’re downloading from, the load on each and the settings on each. So, that may be normal for you, but time will only tell.
The ARES web browser is simply a skin around IE, so that’s why new windows open up in IE. Of course, if it didn’t work before in IE, ARES is not going to be able to perform any magical things for you.

Sounds good. I tried Ares, but they have nothing for Mac. Limewire seems to have a version for all major OSes. You have a choice between the free version and the “pro” version for only $18.88 more (US). One of the listed features of the pro version is “Guaranteed no ads or nagware.” There is an obvious implication here…

I’m using my work computer so I don’t want to screw it up with adwares or any other junk. And will just be using it to download music. Please reply if you’ve used them and what you think of them. These two are free, right?
File sharing music on a work computer is not a smart combination. That’s a good way to get fired. Especially if you’re using the companies Internet connection.
Does anyone use kazaalite k++? It’s not supposed to have most of the bad stuff.
