I have an old GIANT container of muscle milk, unopened(powder form, of course). The plastic is still around the cap. However, it says best by 5/2008. Will this still be consumable? what exactly expires? Does it lose any nutritional value? Is this something they just put on there for you to blow another 60$ on a container of this crap? lol
Id like to start drinking it every once in a while after a long uni ride because sometimes I don’t immediately eat after a ride…and I really should be eating right after.
I used to weight lift, and I would have a glass of this a day. Suprisingly, its extremely good for a protein drink but like has a massive amount of saturated fat lol. I hurt my shoulder though, and now its just gone to waste.
Only pasteurized dairy. Raw milk sours. Raw milk turns to curds and whey (and whey is used to preserve foods). Raw milk becomes more nutritional. Pasteurized milk rots. But I digress; that’s a topic for another day.
Maybe the answer to the question, after weighing all the evidence for and against, is… how much is $60 worth to you? You can always try a little, assuming there’s a reasonable possibility of it being safe. If it’s bad, you will know within a few hours (or immediately when you smell it or put it in your mouth). If $60 is no big deal, then chuck the stuff and don’t take a chance.

OK, so this is another day. Home brew Kefir. I ferment a batch every day and usually consume it in my version of a muesli. Kefir is an ancient way to preserve milk. Google Kefir and whatever ails you… except poor grammer an spellin.
Oh, I’ve made Kefir before! I still have some Kefir starter (from Body Ecology). I think I need to start drinking Kefir again. Thanks for bringing it up. I also drink Kombucha.
