Municyclist Scotland

Just new to unicycling and picked up a municycle, the Nimbus 24" woth the 3" Duro tyre. Not sure exact model name but it can take the disc brake and has a “square” crown.

My usual game is cyclocross but the municycling is addictive and just as much fun!

Only got about 5 hrs training time under my belt but feel progress is OK. I can now static freemount but struggle with it on inclines… So may need to practice another freemount style.

Struggling on the gravel BMX track here, need to keep a hand on the seat with all the bumps etc but I tend to naturally steer in circles with my hand there lol…

Lots to learn!

Welcome and grats on finding what hopefully is a new love!

I’m not up on the jargon much yet, being new myself. I got a Nimbus 24 too, same tire. I love how wide it is and think it will probably help quite a lot in my learning – and muni is what I want to do more than anything else, because our roads here have no shoulders and are generally bounded by steep ragged ditches … that I don’t wanna fall into. Plus our trails here are great!

Good luck getting into the game and I hope you find muni fulfilling and fun! Sounds like you’re already doing nicely if you can freemount. I can’t even paymount.

Thanks,

It’ll all come in time. Every 30 mins I practice I do pick something up (apart from my uni and myself every 2 mins) that helps me fet better and realise what I’m doing wrong so it’s all good… Keeps me coming back rather than throwing it to the side inna defeatist manner!

Yeah javing good trails makes it fun, they make everything fun… I seldom cycle or run on roads now, just hoping to take the muni there in the near future.

Hi

Where about in Scotland are you? I’m in the NE between Aberdeen and Inverness.

Andrew,

I’m in Ayrshire, unfortunately not that close!

I dont know of any unicyclists down this way, thought there would be a few in the cycle clubs but very few if any!

Any better up there?

Kev

Hi Kev

About a 5 hour drive away at least…

I don’t know anyone up here, I think there are a few folk over the Inverness way (Alan Hogan for example who used to be on here fairly regularly) but I haven’t been in touch with anyone. I’ve never actually met anyone else who can ride, at least as far as I know! I’ve seen some old posts from someone in Aberdeenshire but he doesn’t seem to be around here any more.

I learned to ride on a unicycle the same as you have – older model before it had the disc brake mount – it has taken a fair bit of abuse so your’s should see you well.

Enjoy.

Hi Kev

I don’t know anyone up this way. BTW I posted a longer reply but, like most of my posts, it has gone in for moderation (and may never appear). So I’ll keep this one short.
