Muni tips please...

so i have been riding my Kh Freeride for 1.5-2 weeks now. I’ve been doing some trail riding and its been great, until today.

Today a friend and I went to a downhill mountain bike course…it was a whole lot of fun, i did great on the trail riding down. The we saw a nice little rock garden, a nice line of big rocks to hop from…some great trials action. Seeing as i’m unable to carry my KH20 on my back i had to try it on the 24…and may i say its a whole nother ball game on the 24. I forward hopped onto a large rock, and when i forward hopped off the rock to continue on the line i caught another rock with the tire and i got thrown forward…yeah so as i fly through the air i can’t help but think “Wow i could seriously break my arm or leg” and then i hit my knee on a rock…i hit hard…real hard. I haven’t hit somthing that hard sense i fractured my head 5 years ago.

So what kind of tips can i get for stuff like this? being a unicyclist you can’t help but notice the great trials sections along the trail and have to try it out… is everyone else like this? Any tips for hopping on a 24? i assume riding and getting better at the 24 will translate over to the 20, but the 20 will not transfer over to the 24…so i’m probably better off always using the 24 when goofing off at home, so when i do pick up the 20 it will seem easier to do trials activity…

i guess i just need more practice LOL…maybe this post is pointless…

Trials tips

Just keep working on your jumping and trials stuff on your 24, you have more to carry around, so it will take a while to get used to jumping like you do on your 20 inch. I am like you, I always see lines when I am riding, and I always go and and do them as I see them, so I always wear 661 ankle biters, and 661 Knee\shin guards, they havent saved me from any impacts from falling off, but they have saved me many times from my cranks, pedal, the pins on my pedals, roots, small rocks and tons of other stuff. So if your not wearing any pads, I suggest too, other than that, just gotta get used to having a 24 instead of a 20.

yeah i am wearing some shin pads… they are Lizard Skinz shin pads…but taking this huge hit to the knee has me seriously considering some 661 shin/knee combo…

How are the 661’s? Do they get in the way? i just don’t want them to be super uncomfortable…

Ive had mine for a few months now, and the only problem is when my legs get really sweaty, but they are roomy, and fit fine, never got in the way on any of the rides ive done. They are extremely worth it.

yeah I have them to little bit of advice take the hard foamy plastic bit out ,soft armor works great

I actually wear my pads really loose, I like them better that way. =p

Me too. They’re a lot less hot and they allow for better manouverability!

And DON’T [SIZE=2]for the love of Jah, take out the hard plastic strips! They’re the only thing that protects your legs! The soft foam might sway little knocks, but if you get a nasty pedal bite without the plastic strips… You’re going to feel it!

get better at hopping and wear knee shin/knee guards

if your worried about really hard hits to your knees, and not so worried about pedal bite to your calves, which can be painfull and annoying, i would go for somthing more aimed at knee protection. I haven’t tried these, but the Riccochet shinguards at sixsixone.com seem like they would be great for hard knee impacts… just my 2 cents

Without FULL protection while riding serious, rocky muni, you’re taking your LIFE in your hands! All it takes is one very bad falland you could really get seriously hurt. Helmet, shin/knee, elbow/wrist, ankle braces, gloves-all are essential for maximum protection. The best riders fall, and fall hard, so it’s not if but when your next upd happens, so be smart and pad up!
